Back in the game!!!!

Great news from London last night! Gyms can reopen on the 3rd December, with less office parties and overindulgence, this could be your healthiest Christmas ever! With winter weather, shorter days and options to exercise being somewhat limited at present, it is more vital than ever that we make the effort to do as much we can. The NHS recommends all adults should aim to be physically active every day. Any activity is better than none, and more is better still and ideally, 150 minutes of moderate exercise a week or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise per week.

These exercises should include strengthening activities that work all the major muscles (legs, hips, back, abdomen, chest, shoulders, and arms) on at least 2 days a week.

We'll be in touch...

Unbelievably, Kristine will be clambering in the loft this weekend searching for Christmas decorations in preparation for creating Christmas at PB. Let us hope this Christmas brings some good cheer for us all!  So, unless we hear otherwise, we look forward to seeing you back in action on the 2nd December. Your trainer will be in touch with you in the next couple of days to confirm the day and time of your session.

Foot Health Clinic returns

Our Foot Health Clinic reopened on Wednesday 18th November with Louise Reynolds at the helm. Our feet should not hurt and putting up with painful feet is unnecessary. However, in our experience, we find a lot of our patients have waited far too long (often in pain!) before coming in to see us.
Louise is able to diagnose and treat most types of foot problems. You can be assured that a visit to Personal Best will be beneficial. Treatments are available on Wednesdays 9-5 and alternate Thursdays.

Online classes

ZOOM classes will continue and we will be adding to the timetable another High Intensity Workout on Saturday mornings at 9.30am.  See what's available.

Asian Salmon

Quick Asian Salmon

Serves 1

INGREDIENTS
Handful of thinly sliced mushrooms
1/3 carrot, peeled and then use a peeler to cut thin strips
3 asparagus, ends trimmed and sliced into quarters lengthways
2 tbsp toasted sesame oil
1 fillet of salmon
1 tsp miso paste
1 tbsp cold water
Small bunch coriander
Black pepper
Quick ponzu:
1 tbsp tamari soya sauce
1 tbsp rice wine vinegar or white wine vinegar
2-3 tbsp lime juice and the zest of a whole lime

Method
Prep a large piece of tin foil (about A3 or a little smaller) and add a tablespoon of toasted sesame oil.

Then add the salmon and coat in the oil.  Add the 3 chopped veg on top followed by the lime’s zest.

In a small bowl mix the miso paste, water, and another tablespoon toasted sesame.  Pour this over the veg, season with pepper, and tightly wrap up the package leaving no gaps.

Set a large frying pan to a medium heat and when hot add the tin foil package on top.  Either place a lid on top or a large bowl which will help steam the package.  Cook for about 6-7 minutes before having a look to see if the salmon is cooked.

If still a little pink, then add another 1-2 minutes.

My piece needed 8.5 minutes, so it depends on the thickness of the fish.

Pour the package contents on to a plate and drizzle over the leftover juices.

In a small bowl mix together the ingredients for the simple ponzu dressing.   Pour this over everything, add some coriander and a little more black pepper.

Eat simply or with some rice or quick-cook noodles.

Give the gift of health this Christmas

2020 will be a year that we never forget. But it will also be seen as year when many of us stepped back and reviewed our life and our habits. There is no getting away from the fact that inactivity is a major health burden. The good news is, it is never too late to start exercising and benefitting from all the health benefits that physical activity brings.

Thanks for your continued support.
