This has been a record year with a pandemic, wildfires, a historic election, and protests against police brutality.

With all this going on, I’m reminded of what is truly important: We all want our families to be whole and our communities to thrive. We want a healthy, stable place to call home. We want to be able to move around easily and protect our climate. And we want to have a say in the laws, institutions, and policies that are supposed to serve us.

Your support as a Champion of Justice will help us emerge from this crisis stronger. Together we will:

Prevent mass evictions by strengthening tenant protections
Eviction moratoriums have kept Bay Area renters housed but many of these laws are set to expire soon. We will continue to demand decisive action from lawmakers as we fight to cancel rent and promote stable housing for renters.

Advance collective ownership models for land and housing
We recognize housing as a human right, and we are working to guarantee housing for all by advancing alternative models such as community land trusts and cooperatives. In Vallejo, for example, we are supporting a housing justice coalition that is working on a new community land trust.

Save transit from extinction
Essential workers and transit-dependent people need affordable and reliable transit service now more than ever. We are advocating for emergency funding and reprioritizing investments to maintain transit service levels, limit fare increases, and prevent cuts to fare affordability programs.

Increase the power of marginalized communities
Through our leadership development programs, we are building the power of low-income leaders of color to shape laws, institutions, and policies to serve us – from our local budgets to institutions that govern our access to transit, land, and housing.

With your support, we can achieve climate, transportation, and housing justice and ensure low-income people of color are leading the way. Please donate $50, $100, or $250 to Urban Habitat today!
