Grow Lightly Annual General Meeting 2020
2pm, 29 November, 12A Silkstone Road, Korumburra

We will probably meet outside, to satisfy Covid restrictions.
It's not too late to register as a member, but if you're interested of course come anyway. Here is a link to the agenda (which is hardly as long as the link).

REPORT FROM THE HUB
Art in the Hub
The group has been meeting regularly and enjoying many challenges – painting water, reflections, still life, people in the distance, trees, clouds.  Everyone is showing remarkable improvements and confidently tackling quite complex subjects. We have managed to cope with the restrictions by meeting, all masked, in the park next to the hub. Next week we are off to paint a landscape scene.
Here is one of Megan's paintings.
Arrangements for using the Grow Lightly Hub
Now that Covid restrictions have been eased it's time to bring the hub back to life! Christine Millane, our hub coordinator, has been working exceptionally hard on a Covid-Safe Plan, arrangements for use and rent of the hub, and information sheets to be made available to anyone who would like to run an event there.
If you would like more information, please email
info@growlightly.com.au .
And watch this space for announcements about hub activities coming up.
GROWING YOUR OWN
Summer questions

Here are two questions I've been asking myself.

1. Should I prune my tomatoes?
Every vegie book has a different view. I've tended not to prune, and finish with a mass of gorgeous tomato foliage sprawling everywhere, with ripening tomatoes waiting to be discovered inside.
Don't prune determinate varieties, I reckon - the short ones that fruit all at once. This year I'm trying to limit my tall tomatoes to two leaders, the second emerging from below the first truss of buds.
Here is a link to a site that gives you all the information you could possibly want about tomato pruning, complete with pictures. Do check it out.

2. If my vegie book says I can plant, for example, bush beans and zucchini between October and January, but I have garden space early in October, why wouldn't I fill the garden up then?
I don't like gaps in the garden, so I've tended to fill them as they become available. The trouble is, I finish with a glut in January, and none in March.
This year I'm trying to extend the season by staggering planting of beans, zucchini, lettuces , cucumbers, beetroot and carrots. But only small amounts at a time. Last year we hadn't eaten the last sowing of carrots before they started to run up to seed.
Vegies that need a long time in the ground to mature have to be sown early in the season; but you can select varieties that mature at different times. I found KY1 a good early tomato for example. didn't take nearly as long as the tall tomatoes to fruit and ripen.
