Student Spotlight logo
Brookings Public Policy Minor students are engaged in a variety of research topics that address issues critical to the Las Vegas metropolitan region, the Mountain West, and the nation. Through the UNLV Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR), students present their research at one of OUR’s triannual undergraduate research symposia. Each spring, summer, and fall semester, undergraduate students share their work with the campus through poster presentations, oral presentations, and exhibits. The COVID-19 pandemic altered the Fall 2020 OUR event, and students prepared video presentations of their work. The OUR symposia help students develop transferable and transformative skills that prepare students for graduate school, the professional workforce, and life beyond college. We are pleased to acknowledge the efforts of several students who participated in the FALL 2020 OUR Undergraduate Research Symposium.
OUR Keynote Speakers
Peter Grema and Mary Blankenship, student researchers for Brookings Mountain West and The Lincy Institute, delivered keynote addresses at speakers for the Fall 2020 Virtual Undergraduate Research Symposium. In their keynote addresses, Grema and Blankenship discuss the importance of public policy research and its contributions to the local community and beyond. Grema's research includes the ongoing analysis of the funding structure for the Clark County School District and the evolution of banking policy for cannabis companies. Blankenship's research in chemistry focuses on the benefits of solar energy while her research in public policy currently focuses on the spread of misinformation on Twitter.
