Celebrate your essential nature through the use of herbs, flowers, essences and oils. Enjoy a week of body-centred herbalism experienced through the ceremony, song, herbal massage rituals and an introduction to eastern and western healing plants. Discover new ways to harmonize your life with the cycles of nature, finding joy and connection in the green growing world around you.
Sit before a beautiful altar of dry medicinal plants and fresh local herbs from Bali, with a circle of new friends. See, touch, smell and taste aromatic healing plants lovingly harvested from Micha’s Big Sur garden and her family farm in New England. Become intimately acquainted with these new plant friends, learning basic medicinal and energetic properties, engaging myths and stories and useful scientific information for each plant offering.

Micha Merrick
Micha Merrick is using techniques from yoga and ancestral herbal compress massage to help women deliver babies naturally. Time and again she's seen a wild strength and fluid grace of feminine nature first hand creating circles of support for women through song, dance, herbs and massage. Over a period of six years, she lived and studied with traditional women's healers, folk herbalists and shamanic midwives in Bali, Thailand and Northern Hilltribes.

Ellen Watson
Ellen Watson is a long-standing member of faculty at the Esalen Institute, Big Sur, California. During her time at Esalen in combination with time spent teaching and learning around the world, Ellen has intensively studied and developed a broad range of wellness practices and modalities.
Ellen is a teacher of Esalen® Massage & Bodywork, Gabrielle Roth's 5Rhythms®, Holotropic Breathwork, Vibrance, Touching Essence and Wake Up & Roar.
At 71 years old and continue travelling the world to teach, Ellen's lifestyle and state of being is a true advocation of the wellness practices she shares.

Program Information
Your study of massage will be complemented by daily meditation, chanting, yoga, chi gong, ecstatic dance, and other moving meditation practices. You will experience in your own body the qualities of aliveness and flowing presence central to this method. The process of self-exploration is a key element, grounding this practice in the experience of your own body, thereby transforming mere technique into true healing art. The atmosphere and culture of Bali fit well with our intention to teach this method as a path toward healing. The Balinese word for foreigner translates as 'guest', this simple expression conveying the warmth, openness, and beauty which the Balinese embody in every aspect of their lives. As guests of the Balinese during this time, we will have our weekends free to explore the high mountains and hidden beaches of this magical island, absorbing both its tropical beauty and the grace of its people.

Ellen offers retreats and training globally in the fields of Mindfulness Practices which include Esalen®Massage & Bodywork, Touching Essence™, Vibrance™ Dance & Song, The 5Rhythms®, Holotropic™Breathwork, Vibrance Pranayama and Breathwork. Ellen’s work has been deeply influenced her work with plant medicines, empathogens and entheogens, while she apprenticed with Terence McKenna and Stanislav Grof.

Fluid Presence™ refers to the exquisite existence of living in both the world of spirit and matter, form and formlessness, emptiness and fullness. Understanding the all-encompassing, paradoxical nature of existence is truly beyond comprehension. Yet, when we soften and rest into our hearts, we sense something else. We feel the unfathomable Mystery summoning us to live this miraculous existence as a flow of sentience, as an ever-unfolding feeling-experience of oneness and individuation.
Fluid Presence™and SomaRasa is an offering. It is a style of re-education; creating a shift in the perception that keeps us habitually looking through the narrow lens of a separate self. The invitation offered, through experiential and sensory awareness, is to gently and viscerally rest back into what has always been looking through our eyes and feeling through our bodies.

Richard is a master of Aquatic Bodywork and a Bhakti Yogi at heart. He’s an innovator in the field of breathwork, bringing live soundscapes, guided meditation and ecstatic breath together in the Quantum Light Breath. He is dedicated to facilitating others into states of embodied relaxation that allow for Reality to reveal herself in all her beauty and ferocity. He is fascinated by the dance of polarity (creating/receiving, masculine/feminine) and can often be found in loving acts of service.

Perry Holoman
Perry has been a bodywork teacher for over 25 years, teaching in the USA, Europe and Asia. He is based at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California, where he has developed the Deep Bodywork Program along with his wife, Johanna. He is the creator of the European Esalen Massage Teacher’s Training and is a coach and consultant for individuals, businesses and communities using the Gestalt Organizational Consulting Approach.

Peggy Horan
Peggy Horan is one of the founders of the Esalen Massage school and managed the massage department at Esalen for many years, where she now still practices and teaches. In 1996 Peggy co-produced the now-famous Ësalen Massage" DVD. A student of yoga and movement, and a retired midwife, Peggy has over 40 years of practising and teaching Esalen Massage to her name.
