Appendix 1: PRESIDENT’S AGM SPEECH NOVEMBER 2019
Good Evening and welcome to our 2019 AGM. It is very important to attend these meeting as it as a great opportunity to say and hear news of what is happening in the club.
Let us start with the virtual toast for the great running of the club and their members. Please stand up and join me on this toast.

There has been an exciting and sad  news throughout this year. the sad news were the passing away of the following members:

List to be double-checked with yearly notifications

  1. Gerry Nolan Former Commodore and House Commodore for many year
  2. Sean McDevitt, former Club President
  3. Few weeks ago a woman who died 96th Philips Keddy

Let us remember them for a moment with a minutes of silence.
May they all R I P.

On the good news; I would like to thank the committee for the excellent work they put into the club this year. There are a few individuals I feel I have to mentioned:

Vise commodore Fergus Summers did a fantastic job over the summer. Many thanks Fergus

Kieran  O’Grady (Commodore) – led us with great example: No job is too small, to medium or too big. He is happy to negotiate with anyone: County Council, insurance provider or getting us a new Round Ireland sponsorship.
Rear Commodore Cruisers had a hard job this year but well done – Michael
Rear Commodore Dinghies Karen Kissane should be called ‘insane’. Her work has been reflected on the yearly accounts of the club. Looking at the accounts turnover is up to 12%. Your hard work is very much appreciated! This year the harbor was full of sailing boats with kids and adults learning sailing. It was a wonderful sight. Thank you
There has been an increase on membership on the club this year. Denise is our expert on dealing with new child protection and other complicated club policy matters. She does an exceptional background work together with Kieran on the running of the club. Thank you Denise!
Thank you to Louise (Membership Secretary) for keeping account of all the members and for her artistic eye handling the merchandising of the club.
It is very noticeable that there is a woman’s touch on the running of the club house. The bar is running and all things in the club has been greatly taken care of. Hilary has done a great job! Thank you Hilary
All the minutes are recorded properly. Thank you to the Hon. Secretary Esvy
Thank you to Joanne the Hon. Treasurer for keeping the books in order. Last Sunday (Nov 24th 2019) the Trustees  complemented her great work on the accounts.
As for me, I very much enjoyed the year of Presidency and with that I declare the AGM open and hand you over to our Commodore.

Appendix 2: Apologies received from:
David Bell, Sandra Desmond, Julie Finnerty, Tomas Finnerty, Shireen Fisher, Ian Fisher, Sandra Fitzgerald, Rose Gillespie, Cathleen Johnson, John Kissane, Ian Logan, Fergus O’Conchobhair, Theo Phelan, Orlagh Phelan, Sinead Redmond, Ronan Rose Roberts, Frances Shearer, Anne Sheridan.

Appendix 3:             Commodores Report 2019 AGM
The committee would like to thank Joanne for her tremendous work over the accounts this year.  No job was to hear or too small for her. You will noticed this when she goes through the accounts. She got read of few abnormalities on the accounts passed on from previous years.
Coursers Mike and Ken had a tremendous season. The highlight was the trip to Howth. They got a lot of raising despite the weather.

I want to mentioned some of the people who work behind the seen. Tony Gilespie I feel some of the cruisers could volunteer a bit more and help Tony. Which currently takes a lot by himself.

Dinghies. We had great instructors  - Sam Hennessy. The highlight in this category was the adventure trip to Maherimore . There are a lot of kids that were watching the trip from shore and they would like to do the same in future years. The trip was a success. They had a great weather and great time on the beach camping.

In this section I would like to note that  it would be great if parent that help on parent on shore duties could take courses on rib driving . That way they could get involved on helping on this duties too.
We have a raise officer – Fergus. He does a fantastic job. Also Kevin is one of the few retired member who still give us a hand whatever is needed . thank you to both
On the House matters Hilary has done a tremendous job. She is recycling the glass from the bar, which cut cost for the club . She was assisted by Jess  and Helen on the dinner night. They did a fantastic job. Thank you for that!

Membership – Louise has done a great job. Overall member of the club are up. The actual income is down. However, this is partially due to the rationalization of the members. We includes parents and their children up to the age of 30 which has seen students transfer back to family and encouraged more students to sail.  Along with that Louise looked after member , merchandising and Pico club, with enormous success. Well done Louise!
Mark  -We have them as the IT person. He never says no, we had a film shot on the club this year and they were quite demanding. Hilary was down 10 times, Mark was down. I want to acknowledge of how much he does on the background.
Denise – ex-official .Helped me to secure a new sponsor. Dealing of all the non-aspects of PAYE, VAT  matters and organizer of the 2020 Round Ireland. She help me with the promotion of the new sponsor – SSE renewables . They are very keen sponsors. However, trying to move things along has been a bit slow. As regard the promotion of the raise, Denise and myself when to UNCL france– equivalent of ISORA. Over the weekend. At the event we got the privilege to address the audience and encourage all to attend Round Ireland. We are going back in mid Dec’19 to further promote the event. Morgan cup is our competition, which is happening  at the end of July’20 and it is hugely popular. Despite that, I will be disappointed if we don’t have 60 boats. We went to Dusseldorf and Paris. We got a fantastic reception from them (from big cruisers).  Overall, we have more interest at this stage than we had before. June 20th – is the date. We are hoping that everyone will support us. It’s great to be part of the club when you see all the members get together and support during such great event.

Appendix 4: Honorary Treasurer’s Report 2019

I am delighted to report healthy accounts for 2019 and would like to thank Hal for his help in not only  preparing the accounts for year end, completing the wages and VAT returns throughout the year also for his advice and support.  I would also like to thank Michael for providing the club with the software package which was a big help in making the task of recording the accounts simpler.

Membership this year despite being down in value has actually increased in number, mainly due to the change in terms for family membership which now includes parents and their children up to the age of 30 which has seen students transfer back to family and encouraged more students to sail. There was also an increase in early payment of memberships to avail of the 10% discount and to get early access to Junior training bookings.

The cost of insurance increased by €1,614 which is not ideal however this is despite seeking the best quotes for the required cover.

The biggest highlight of the financial year has to be the Leader Grant of €18,724 mentioned at last year’s AGM but only received into accounts late November which was used to purchase the big screen and create atmosphere at the Round Ireland and was a great success.

A huge congratulations has to go to Karen, Louise & the Junior Training team for a super year, not only has the courses been great fun but has brought a lot of revenue to the club with Training Courses income up almost €4,000 on the year. Almost all of the courses ran at full capacity and as mentioned by the Commodore extra Adult Dinghy courses and Powerboat courses ran this year and a Powerboat course completed for the Swimming Club.  The introduction of Learn to Race on a Saturday and the popularity of Pico club also added to the income for Junior Training.
This year the RIBS were used for hire to assist with different events and film crews which was also a welcome income to the sailing account.
The Moorings chains were replaced at a cost of €2,388 and the cost of servicing the RIBS was up with the new RIBS included in the servicing for the 1st time.
Depreciation is low, having depreciated the boats and engines fully last year due to the Sports Grant.

On house, Bar sales are down on the year but expenses are also down. The Royal Bridge Club continues to rent the club weekly from September to the start of May.
Maintenance costs have been kept to a minimum with lots of repairs carried out by club members and volunteers lead by our wonderful Commodore Kyran and his glamorous assistant Mark!  We purchased a new TV for the bar and replaced the floor in the bar. Hilary has been great at recycling which has reduced the waste bill and also volunteering behind the bar to keep wages down so thank you Hilary.
Taking all the above in account it is great to return a profit of €40,789 for a non Round Ireland Year and to have a bank balance of €148,000!!

The Commodore commented on the surplus fund: Ideally we would like to extend the boat park. Unfortunately this is a long road due to difficulties to obtain planning permission.
The budget for the boat park extension is around €400K. We hope that we get a grant for it. We will try to resubmit the application and continue to push for the progressing of this application.

The accounts were seconded by Denise.
