The Black Cultural Society of PEI invites Black and African diaspora communities to collaborate at Town Hall
On Friday, November 27, the perspectives of the Black and African diaspora communities will be elevated and centred at a Community Needs Town Hall with the Black Cultural Society of PEI (BCSPEI).
BCSPEI is currently working through an intensive strategic planning process to determine how it can best serve PEI’s Black communities. “We want to have an organization that can respond to community needs, address issues, and deliver relevant cultural and heritage programming” says Tamara Steele, President of BCSPEI’s board of directors.
Part of this process was the creation and dissemination of a community needs assessment survey which was launched online last week. To complement this, BCSPEI has organized a Town Hall to hear from and further the conversation with the Island’s Black community. “We’re inviting and centering the perspectives of Black and African diaspora communities in this discussion” says Chijioke Amadi, BCSPEI’s Vice President.
The Town Hall will provide a space for BCSPEI to facilitate an open discussion with attendees to brainstorm in some key areas that were highlighted by participants in the Community Needs Assessment Survey, including community engagement, financial barriers, business/entrepreneurship, and mental health.
The Town Hall will also be an opportunity to update the community on what BCSPEI has been up to over the last year.
The community needs focused Town Hall will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, November 27th at the Homburg Theatre, Confederation Centre of the Arts.
Due to Covid restrictions, residents will need to pre-register for this event by visiting the Confederation Centre Box Office in person, or by calling the Box Office at 902-566-1267. For more information about the event, please contact BCSPEI at blackculturesocietype@gmail.com.

Mask Central PEI is a group created to allow various groups and organizations in Prince Edward Island looking for donations of non-medical masks connect and interact with generous donors, so we can ensure every Islander has access to a reusable, non-medical mask amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

4) Oppose Bill C-233 that would ban sex selection abortion
|
|
9 November 2020
Private Member Bill C-233 would criminalize sex selective abortion and sentence providers to up to five years in jail. The bill was introduced by a Conservative MP under the pretense of fighting gender discrimination, but it would do harm and violate peoples' rights. It would also open the door to more abortion restrictions.
The bill is likely coming up for second reading next week, and ARCC has asked all Members of Parliament to vote against the bill.

6) Register today! International Volunteer Day celebration Dec. 4 - E-Gallery

Hello everyone,
I hope you are well! Each year ACIC, in partnership with Nova Scotia’s Department of Communities, Culture, and Heritage, celebrates International Volunteer Day to honor the importance of volunteer work both at home and abroad. This year we are switching gears to celebrate in a way that will be safe and engaging for everyone. We are creating and launching an E-Gallery on our website which will showcase photojournalism projects submitted by volunteers across Atlantic Canada! Join us at our launch event next week to view some of these presentations & to share what volunteering means to you!
The event will feature 7 brief presentations from selected photojournalists who will talk about their 2020 volunteering experiences and how volunteering locally can have global impacts. The event also features a volunteer-themed trivia game (with exciting prizes!) and break out rooms to have discussions with other participants.
The event will be held on Friday, December 4th, from 10am-11:30am AST on Zoom. The event is free and open to folks of all ages, from Atlantic Canada and beyond! DESCRIPTION DU POSTE
Le travail de la coordinatrice de projets s’effectue en étroite collaboration avec la direction générale d’AFIPE.
Nous sommes à la recherche d’une personne rassembleuse et proactive, qui connaît bien les enjeux féministes et a une bonne compréhension des enjeux actuels, qui a une expérience en animation de la vie associative et relation avec des membres ainsi qu’en gestion de projets.
La mission principale de la coordinatrice de projets sera de développer et d’exécuter une programmation pour améliorer le leadership, le bien-être et la socialisation des femmes francophones insulaires, en accord avec notre stratégie 2020-2023. Il s’agira notamment de créer et d’animer des espaces de rencontres (virtuels et en personne) pour nos membres tels que des retraites, ateliers, webinaires, 5 à 7 …etc, aussi bien à l’échelle provinciale que dans les 6 régions de la communauté acadienne et francophone.
COMPÉTENCES RECHERCHÉES :
• Expérience et/ou formation en gestion de projet ou équivalent
• Avoir une grande autonomie dans son travail, ainsi que le sens de l’organisation
• Être polyvalente, réactive, adaptable, savoir prendre des initiatives et aimer travailler sur plusieurs dossiers en même temps.
• Avoir de l’expérience dans la gestion de projets avec maîtrise des budgets.
• Avoir de l’aisance relationnelle, un bon esprit d’équipe, de l’entregent, de la diplomatie et savoir travailler et s’adapter à des publics variés (jeunes et/ou personnes âgées, régions rurales/urbaines…).
• Avoir une souplesse dans son horaire et dans l’exécution du travail, ainsi qu’une capacité à faire du multitâches
• Gérer les informations sensibles de manière confidentielle
• Avoir une bonne connaissance des outils informatiques comme la Suite Office, l’environnement Mac et savoir s’adapter à tout autre outil de gestion.
• Très bonnes capacités à s’exprimer et rédiger en français et en anglais
• Bonne connaissance des communautés acadiennes et francophones de l’IPÉ serait un atout
EXIGENCES SPÉCIFIQUES :
• Être autorisée à travailler au Canada
• Être titulaire d'un permis de conduire et posséder un véhicule
• Être en accord avec les valeurs d’un organisme féministe.
CONDITIONS D'EMPLOI
• Poste de 37,5h / semaine.
• Salaire : de 20$ à 23$ de l’heure selon les compétences et l’expérience.
• Avantages : accès à un plan santé avantageux, possibilité de télétravail, horaire flexible.
• Poste d’un an, avec possibilité de renouvellement. Début du contrat dès que possible.
• Lieu de travail : Summerside, au Centre La Belle-Alliance – possibilité de travailler à distance, en télétravail voire à Charlottetown dans un futur proche.

It has been over 30 years since the murder of 14 young women at Polytechnique Montréal (December 6, 1989). This act of violent misogyny shook our country and led Parliament to designate December 6 as The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women.

As we mourn their loss and honour their memory, we reaffirm our commitment to fight the hatred that led to this tragedy, and the misogyny that still exists today. In Canada and around the world, women, girls, LGBTQ2 (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, two spirit) and gender diverse individuals face unacceptable violence and discrimination. Gender-based violence in Canada has been magnified and amplified by the COVID-19 pandemic. There have been reports from police services, shelters and local organization of an increase in calls related to gender-based violence across Canada during the pandemic.
The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women is about remembering those who have experienced gender-based violence and those who we have lost to it; it is also a time to take action. Working together we can help prevent and address gender-based violence by remembering and learning from our past, listening to survivors, and speaking up against harmful behaviour.
December 6 falls within the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. Add your voice to the conversation between November 25 and December 10 and share the ways you are being part of the solution to end gender-based violence using the hashtag #16Days.

13) Community Support, Multiculturalism, and Anti-Racism Initiatives Program

The Community Support, Multiculturalism, and Anti-Racism Initiatives Program supports the mandate of the Department of Canadian Heritage by building on Canada's strength as a diverse and inclusive society.
The Program's objectives are to:
- support communities in confronting racism and discrimination, promoting intercultural and interfaith understanding and fostering equitable opportunities to participate fully in Canadian society
- promote and engage in discussions on multiculturalism, diversity, racism and religious discrimination at the domestic and international levels
- strengthen research and evidence to build understanding of the disparities and challenges faced by racialized and religious minority communities, and Indigenous Peoples
The Program has three funding components: Events, Projects and Community Capacity Building. It also includes one separate initiative, the Paul Yuzyk Youth Initiative for Multiculturalism.
