Leader Feature: "There's a Patch for That!"
Every month we will have ideas, tips, and resources for you to use during troop meetings or as part of your Girl Scout year.
As a leader, it sometimes is difficult to keep girls interested, especially during virtual meetings. Many girls want to earn something but they get tired of the GSUSA badges. One way to get ideas as a leader is to browse a patch company's fun patches. You get an idea of something fun to do and girls earn a patch. Here are a few you might want to try out...
For Younger Girls...
Cards to Seniors - have Girl Scouts write cards and mail them to a nearby nursing home
Trivia Fun - make your own troop trivia using Google Slides or find a ready-made trivia game on Kahoot!
Movie Day - have a movie watching party via Netflix, Zoom, or Google Meets.
Scavenger Hunt - this is a great way to have fun in-person or via Zoom. A super easy hunt is to ask scouts to find something for each letter of their name, or, to make it fair, use Juliette Low!
Science Fun - there are tons of easy science experiments online that only require stuff around the house. Give one a try!
For Older Girls...
Be the Change - inspire girls to think about something they do not like in their life and try to work to change it.
Virtual STEM - there are lots of STEM activities online. Have the girls pick one and give it a try!
Escape Room - whether virtual or in-person, escape rooms are great team-building activities for your troop.
Or try out GSAlumnae's new Adulting 101 Patch Program. There are 16 patches to earn through a combination of large and small steps. The small steps make great meeting fillers!
