Covid-19
The WP government issued a press release last night about the rapidly increasing infection rate in the Cape Metro. The numbers are staggering and infections and deaths are on the rise daily, at rate of over 50% over the last week.
This comes shortly after the communication from BSA about their concerns for our sport nationally in the face of this new wave of infections.
The national government is also training over 800 inspectors to visit establishments and confirm compliance with the regulations.
While we are concerned about having to close the club again, and the effect this could have on our sport, our major concern is for your health!
While we do already comply with the regulations, we are going to start being even stricter about enforcing protocols and ask that you bear with us in this regard.
- Do not enter the Club with signing in and having your temperature checked
- Do not come to the Club if you have shown any symptoms or have been in contact with anyone who is infected
- Wear your mask at all times when not eating, drinking or on the green
- Wash or sanitise your hands constantly
- Maintain social distancing
- Do not stand in groups inside the Clubhouse
- Do not crowd together at the bar
Please will every member assist with keeping us all healthy. This is not something that the Committee Members can do on their own - we need every one of you to be aware, be careful and be safe.
Urge those around you to keep their distance, to not crowd together, to wear their masks, and wash their hands. If we all work together we can all stay safe!
Stay safe and healthy!

The Mowbray Raffle
We have extended our raffle draw to Thursday 10 December and urge everyone to please assist with selling the final tickets.
There are 18 books left and we would like to try and get them all sold.
This fundraiser is assisting us with replacing the income we are losing while the A Green is closed and we cannot host the range of functions that we normally have at this time of year. Please do your best to assist!
Speak to your friends, family, neighbours, acquaintances, shop assistants, bus conductors, taxi operators, cashiers, other bowlers and strangers!

Playing Lead - Etiquette
Last week Taz shared an article about the importance of the Lead. This week she follows that up with some Etiquette tips specifically for Leads.
- If your opponent miraculously wins the toss / the end - it is customary to place their bowl for an easy pick up on the left of the mat.
- After your above generosity of giving your opponent a chance with the jack - in a team game - wait on the 2m mark to hear from your skip about where to place the mat and roll the jack.
- If you accidentally lose the jack short or roll it into the ditch - make sure you wait for the marker / skip to roll it back to you - then pick up both the jack and mat and hand them over to your opponent. Please don't walk away and let your opponent do either one of those things. You're the chop who lost the jack, not them!
- Leads and seconds should only offer advice through the player calling the head. There is nothing more confusing for a third or skip than receiving more than one instruction from more than one person. Being in a team means that everyone is included in the ultimate goal - which is winning of course - but let your third or skip mentally process the shot they see for that best result.
- After your two brilliant bowls which are in the head - watch every bowl played by your team mates - be involved - this will help to keep your concentration in the game until you roll again. Applaud results and applaud close shots - everyone is trying their best.
- Show interest in measures and results of each end - thirds / skips can definitely have senior moments and miss things - so should you see something quietly mention it to your third / skip. At no time remove any bowls from the head before the final score has been determined and finalized between both teams. Bowls far from the head are a different story as you know - but let the opposition get their own bowls!
- As a lead if your team wins the end you can go ahead and place the mat while all the other players move the bowls - this helps with the momentum of the game. If you see they struggling then please help.
- Most important - is good body language at all times! No turning your back, no crossing your arms and certainly no comments about your team mates ever. This is not only a lead thing of course - but positive energy after a bad end is key to get the game back under control again.
Any questions - speak to the Springboks!
