Gifts That Keep On Giving: In Loving Memory of Linda Kitay Censor

The Canton Central School music faculty took a moment during a recent department meeting to pose in front of the high school auditorium where a plaque has been placed “In Loving Memory of Linda Kitay Censor: Memorial funds have been generously donated by brother Michael Kitay and husband Walter Censor for the indicated musical instruments and equipment.”

During the 2019-20 schoolyear, purchase of a Baldwin Piano for the Banford Music Room, two (2) Yamaha Tenor Saxophones for the Middle School Jazz Band, and restoration of our Steinway Grand Piano in the Auditorium were realized.  Thus far in 2020-21, funds have been used in conjunction with Canton Music Friends to purchase two (2) years’ worth of SmartMusic premium subscriptions for our four (4) faculty and two hundred fifty (250) music students – greatly enhancing our ability to function in fun and meaningful ways both in-person and remotely.

To date, $31,000 has been generously donated by the Kitay Censor families – with Linda’s daughters becoming involved as of this year.  Linda was a 1956 Canton Central School graduate and we are most grateful that her family has chosen to honor her memory in this fashion.  We would also like to thank our friend Connie Meng for making this connection a reality and CCS Business Manager Denise “Dee” Folsom for helping us to foster this relationship and manage these funds in an appropriate manner.

Elementary Updates

Third grade STEAM Fridays haven’t disappointed...the kids especially enjoyed creating explosions this past Friday. Each week we try to relate science, technology, engineering, art, math, or a combination of these areas to our curriculum. The kids can’t wait to see what the next project will be!

Students in Ms. Barkley's class read the story “Night of the Grizzlies”. The students learned about the effects that litter has on wild animals. After we read the story, the students each created posters to teach people the importance of recycling and the negative effects that litter has on our earth.

Here are some thankful turkeys! Great job, students in Mrs. Smith's class!

Mrs. Hetu's 1st Grade
I would say these turkeys have the perfect disguises! They won’t be on anyone’s table this Thanksgiving!

Mrs. Newman's 2nd Grade Frog Pond
The Tadpoles and I were catching up on honoring our Veterans today.

Mrs. Hetu's 1st Grade
We are grateful for the “Book Fairy!” There were some happy first graders today. They each got 7 new books...some to read with family and some at their reading level. Thank you for the donations 🙏🏼❤️.

Fifth graders made a visit to the library to use google maps to find real places from their non-fiction books.  They loved building background knowledge about their famous place while tying in some technology skills.  It was exciting for them to match their text feature photos with the actual famous place on google maps.

So many of our classes had some festive fun, even via Zoom! Here is one example, from Mrs. Smith's second-grade class -- Math Reindeer for Festive Fun!
