This is the week of thanks and giving! For the year 2020, FBT commits to helping Yabal and is organizing this fundraising to create food security and women's empowerment solutions in rural highlands of Guatemala.
FBT received a grant proposal from Y’abal Handicrafts in Guatemala asking for our assistance in establishing a community vegetable garden and community produce store in Pacutama and Chuicutama in Santa Catarina Ixtahuacan, Solola. In their grant proposal, Y’abal noted that this women-run project will serve “over 90 Mayan families in the rural highlands of Guatemala.” Through this project, the women in the community will be trained as agriculturalists and business owners as they grow produce to feed their families and sell the produce from the community garden to local residents. They will likewise serve as leaders in their community who employ environmentally sustainable agriculture techniques, which will help not only their community, but also the land on which they live. FBT is proud to support this project by purchasing garden equipment, seeds, fertilizer, and materials needed for the community garden and produce store.
Yabal has promised to meet these three goals with the funds that FBT will donate.
- Goal 1: Increase food security and create local sustainable sources of food production
- Goal 2: Promote organic food consumption and agriculture
- Goal 3: Women's empowerment and capacity building.
Help us help Yabal! Be a part of Global Week of Giving!!
