Wicker searches for voter fraud as Mississippi Republicans won't acknowledge Trump loss

Republican U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, Mississippi’s senior senator and an ardent ally of Donald Trump, is helping the president look for alleged voter fraud.
 

Republicans in Mississippi’s congressional delegation have not responded to recent questions from Mississippi Today about the president’s challenge of the election in which he lost the popular vote by more than 6 million votes and lost the electoral college 306-232.

Civil rights activist James Meredith announces plans to open museum

During a press conference Wednesday, James Meredith announced plans to open the James Meredith Museum and Bible Society in 2021.

Embattled mental health agency puts message-crafter in charge

Instead of advertising the position, the Mississippi Department of Mental Health immediately replaced its outgoing director with Wendy Bailey, the agency’s deputy director of administration and former communications director.

“They don’t want somebody else coming in to uncover where the bodies are buried,” a state representative said.

Mississippi Today team searches for higher education reporter

Weekly COVID-19 Update: The number of hospitalizations have begun to surge in the last month. Though hospitalizations haven’t reached peak July levels, they are growing at a quicker pace than before.
Mask Mandate: A total of 41 counties are under a mask mandate. The counties are Alcorn, Attala, Benton, Bolivar, Carroll, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Covington, DeSoto, Forrest, Harrison, Hinds, Humphreys, Itawamba, Jackson, Jefferson Davis, Jones, Lafayette, Lamar, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Leflore, Lee, Lincoln, Lowndes, Madison, Marshall, Montgomery, Neshoba, Panola, Perry, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Rankin, Stone, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Union, Winston and Yalobusha.
