Dear Friends

I hope that you and your families remain healthy and safe in these challenging times. It’s encouraging that it appears we will have vaccines coming into wide use by early next year, but we must remain vigilant over the coming months. This quick video about COVID-19 and Trigeminal Neuralgia has proven to be the busiest page on my website over the past few weeks. Have a look as the ideas have application for more than just TN patients.

For me personally, one of the biggest surprises of the COVID pandemic has been the change in speaking events. I enjoy public speaking and keynote presentations because they represent a unique opportunity to contribute and share ideas with interested groups. It will come as no surprise that there has been very little opportunity to travel to local or distant events.

The surprise is that in fact, the pandemic has expanded the number of opportunities. As a busy neurosurgeon, there are only a limited number of times a year that I can dedicate a day or even two to travel to make a presentation in another city, state, or country.

Zoom Meetings, Team Meetings and the like make it surprisingly easy to schedule an hour’s presentation to a group. From associations, to college teams, professional organizations, and leadership groups, it turns out that I’m talking to more people than ever before.

My most recent online event happened on November 20th when I was honored to be the guest on the "Fridays With Friedlander" webcast from the University of Pittsburgh Department of Neurosurgery. The webcast is hosted by department chair Robert M. Friedlander, MD. I did my neurosurgical residency at Pitt so this was like a "virtual" homecoming. You can watch the full presentation here.

November 5th marked the 1st anniversary of the publication of my book, Cognitive Dominance: A Brain Surgeon’s Quest to Out-Think Fear. I am so grateful for the feedback, the kind words, the reviews, and most importantly the opportunity to meet and make a difference in so many lives.

It’s time to let the cat out of the bag. Over the summer, I recorded the book in Audible Book Format.  Yes… I did the reading; not a professional book reader. It was important to me to have a personal relationship with the listeners. In the process, I gained a new respect for how difficult the work of a professional reader actually is, but that’s a story for another day.

The editing has been completed and we are expecting the audible version to be released very shortly. Be sure to follow me on Twitter or Facebook to be notified the moment that happens.

Here’s wishing you and your loved ones a safe Happy Thanksgiving.

Warm Regards
Mark
