Altar Flowers
The altar flowers of Nov. 22 were given to the glory of God and
in memory of Princess Bowman Morris by the Miles Hanckel family.
St. John’s Altar Flower Ministry designs new flower creations each week for Sunday services. Flowers are individually selected and prepared on Friday. The cost to dedicate flowers is $70 for both vases or $40 for one. Contact Sally Dixon ( balact@bellsouth.net; 843-709-4894). |

Feeding the Multitude

The word I really want to focus on is trust, because the consistent message that showed through during the entire experience of the 13th Annual Feeding of the Multitude was “Trust Me.” I can’t get that out of my mind—Trust Me!
- We trusted Him when we had to modify the format that seemed to work for 12 years.
- We trusted Him when we exceeded our goal of 600 bags and ended up with 1,200.
- We trusted Him when we questioned, “Would that many people come?”
- We trusted Him when we increased our order to 900 turkeys to match the influx of bags and money that were donated.
- We trusted Him when we were concerned—“Did we order more than we needed? What will we do with extra turkeys? Should we order more when the number of bags reached 1,100, 1,200?
- We trusted Him when Jesus gave us the idea to hold off on ordering more turkeys and instead get grocery store gift certificates to give if more people came.
- We trusted Him when days before the Feeding we realized we were short of volunteers.
- As always for 13 years, we trusted that He would give us a pretty day to help Him grow His kingdom, and He did.
Jesus Christ was in charge of the Feeding and this is what happened in response to prayer:
- Church teams took 165 plated meals to shut-ins and nearly 200 bags of food/turkeys to Johns Island Rural Housing and to families and men in homes in Hispanic camps on Johns Island.
- The phone prayer line prayed, the Facebook stream that ran from noon to 3 p.m. prayed, the people of the Island churches prayed. We also prayed over and over the prayers on our united church prayer chain draped over the cross. And Jesus answered our prayers.
- What’s left over?—75 bags and a few gift certificates, which we shared with New Webster United Methodist Church food pantry on Wadmalaw Island and Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach. All 900 turkeys are gone.
- We closed the day with our volunteers and a couple of guests standing in a circle, masked and social distancing, singing “Amazing Grace” at the top of our lungs.
- And I cried tears of joy and thanksgiving, just like I have done for 13 years.
With thanks to all the volunteers, the organization committee, church coordinators, the prayer team, and all who donated.
You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you (Isa. 26:3).

Christmas Stockings for Lieber Correctional Institute Ministry
There are 1,100 inmates at Lieber Correctional Institute in Ridgeville. Inmates have had no visits at all from their families for eight months as they have been locked down amid COVID-19. The inmates have to rely on family and volunteers to give them items for personal hygiene, and they desperately need these items.
Last year at Christmas, in an event organized by the prison ministry at St. Claire of Assisi on Daniel Island, some of the correctional officers and volunteers stuffed 80 red-felt stockings with soap, a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, white tube socks, and a sweet.
This year, correctional officers at Lieber have asked St. Clare of Assisi to ask other churches and organizations for help as they strive to give every inmate a Christmas stocking.
That means they need to identify 22 churches and organizations to donate. If you can help by donating supplies for stockings, it would be a real blessing for the inmates at Lieber.
Here is a list of items for the drive:
- Simple red-felt stockings, homemade or available at Dollar General for $1 each
- Regular-size toothbrushes and toothpaste
- Regular-size bars of soap
- Men’s white, short-sleeve undershirts, various sizes
- Regular-size containers of deodorant, any brand
- Packaged candy canes, cookies, or candy bars
- Handwritten cards or notes or hand-drawn pictures of encouragement (a perfect way to involve children or teens)
Please do not stuff the stockings or wrap any of the items, as they must be cleared through security. Inmate volunteers at Lieber will stuff the stockings, as they did last year.
Items must be dropped off no later than Dec. 13 at St. John’s Parish. Boxes will be located in both Guerry Hall and Walton Hall.

Order Your Christmas Poinsettias
 St. John’s will adorn the Church and Walton Hall in preparation for Christmas and to remember and honor loved ones. You may purchase as many poinsettias as you wish at $17 each. We need to receive orders by Dec.14.

For Operation Christmas Child
While our gifts in the boxes only last for a short time, the gift of Jesus is eternal. We want to open children’s hearts to not only receive the box but also the message of love and hope in Christ Jesus.
Samaritan’s Purse works with pastors all over the world to find communities where children have not received a shoebox. The organization’s goal is to provide one shoebox in each child’s young life so that the project will reach and touch more children each Christmas season with the gospel.
Please continue to pray for your Christmas child.

For Persecuted Churches
We pray for persecuted churches around the world. For the month of November we pray for the nation of Uzbekistan.
Heavenly Father, Christians and Christian churches in Uzbekistan are suffering due to religious nationalism, authoritarian government rule, Islamic persecution, and violence. We lift them up in your Holy Name, asking for your mercy to surround them. We pray for the Christian churches in Uzbekistan to persevere through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Lord, in your mercy: Hear our prayer.
