Stittsville’s Spark

Stittsville is a town of 60,000 people outside of Ottawa, where Sunday School has been completely reimagined. It isn't always on Sunday (often it isn't!) and although learning is still at its forefront, so is the gift of teaching and bringing our gifts forward.

For example, could a local baker teach others how to bake? Could a local engineer explain a concept with Lego? Could a local artist do paint sessions? Who else might be in the neighbourhood that wants to try out a program (maybe once or for a few weeks)?

Hear all about the new ministry that has grown out of Stittsville from its leader, Ruth, in this online conversation!

Minister’s Insights from her MBA

Miriam Bowlby, the minister at Cochrane United Church in St John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, went back to school for her MBA at Memorial University. It was a big decision! She is now an MBA graduate AND a minister! What new insights has she gained? What new approach to ministry is she taking? What is next for her and what is happening at Cochrane? What can we glean from these approaches?

Learn about all the insights she's had so far.

Embracing the Spirit is a learning network and innovation fund. It offers funding and support for innovation ideas hatched out of faith communities and communities in ministry. Some of the stories and best practices that are happening throughout The United Church of Canada are shared in this newsletter.

If you have an idea that you want to launch, reach out and tell us about it! Proposal deadlines are quarterly, and due on the 15th of the month: January, April, July and October. Find out more
