So Much to be Thankful For

Thankful for our ministry partners
As we reflect on all that we are thankful for this year those who partner with us in prayer and finances are right at the top of our list. The Lord has used your prayers not only to sustain the ministry but, more importantly, to grow us spiritually. This has been a strange and challenging year in many ways and we know that Lord has sustained us through your prayers and His Word. Beyond that, the Lord continues to supply our daily needs and provide for all of our ministry expenses thanks to your sacrificial generosity. In fact, He recently showed us an extra measure of love through our sending church, Christ Fellowship KC, through a huge care package they sent us. It felt like Christmas had come early. So, again, thank you to all of our ministry partners - we praise God for you!

Thankful for the resumption of some face-to-face ministry
I am confident that everyone reading this has serious Zoom fatigue at this point. We are no different here. However, things in Peru are just now starting to open up more and more. Beginning in the middle of November some limited religious gatherings were permitted to resume. As a result, we recently hosted the group of pastors and leaders who I am training to be teachers in the Bible institute. It was a fantastic time. Betsy and the kids were excellent hosts as these future teachers and I worked on teaching from the Old Testament, gave one another feedback, prayed together, ate together, and discussed future plans.

Another exciting development is that we will have our first class of pastors and leaders graduating from the Bible institute soon, Lord willing. We will have 42 graduates in the first class. Many travel from long distances and make great sacrifices to come. All of them have worked hard over the last three years to get to this point. Pastor Dawrin (my fellow teacher) and I are excited to celebrate with these men and women. Beyond that, two other groups that were set to graduate this year should do so early next year.
A Country in Turmoil
Peru is now on its fourth president in this presidential term. Earlier this month we had three different presidents within one week. To make a long story short, President Vizcarra was voted to be impeached by congress on some very questionable charges. As a result of this he resigned. He was replaced by the head of congress who led the movement to get Vizcarra removed from office. He then resigned within days due to intense pressure to do so as seen in large protests and even his entire, newly appointed, cabinet resigning. After a few days without a president, congress appointed our newest president, Francisco Sagasti, who we are hopeful will make it until the elections in April. Sadly, the current thought here is that this type of political unrest will continue for the foreseeable future. Obviously, this would make it very difficult for the country to grow and advance economically, educationally, etc. These situations are good reminders that our hope should never be placed in the State, but in Christ alone. Please pray for Peru.

  • We found a playground that was actually not blocked off or closed down - all the parks have been closed since the pandemic started.
  • More fun at the playground.

Family Update

As things open up here we are doing our best to take advantage as a family. We recently went on a really fun hike see some Incan ruins, including some tombs where Incan kings were buried. Even though children are still not allowed to enter stores we have been able to get out and about and go to some outdoor markets. This has been a lot of fun and a huge blessing. We also were happy to be able to celebrate Thanksgiving with another missionary couple that are friends of ours.
Praises
  • We are thankful that things are finally beginning to open up here and we are able to go out and enjoy things more as a family.
  • I am thankful for the extra time I have been able to put into my PhD studies over the last several months.
  • We were so blessed by the care package that Christ Fellowship KC sent us.
Prayer Requests
  • That cases continue to go down here and things continue to open up and face-to-face ministry can resume more and more.
  • That patience and grace would abound between everyone in our household.
  • That our friends who are scheduled to visit in December are able to come.
  • For continued development of the church revitalization ministry and the new teachers in the Bible institute.
