Digital Rocks Visualization Challenge | Submission deadline: Dec. 1
Digital Rocks is sponsoring a challenge to promote visualization and reuse of 3D images of porous materials that are stored in the open data repository Digital Rocks Portal. Prizes will be awarded for best video, static image, and 3D printed structure challenges. Learn more at their website

NHLBI BioData Catalyst Fellows Program Call for Prooposals | Submission deadline: Dec. 4
The NHLBI BioData Catalyst Fellows Program provides early-career researchers the opportunity to receive funding to help support research on novel and innovative data science and data-focused research problems. The program is open to academic disciplines conducting biomedical research in heart, lung, blood, and sleep domains. The BioData Catalyst Consortium seeks projects that represent diversity across fields of study, institutions, geography, and investigators. Learn more at their website.

Data Matters Short Course Series | Dec. 7-11 | Online
Data Matters is a week-long series of one and two-day courses aimed at students and professionals in business, research, and government. The series gives students the chance to learn about a wide range of topics in data science, analytics, visualization, curation, and more from expert instructors. Learn more at their website.

2021 Institute for Data Science and Big Data | Application due: Dec. 11
American University will hold the 2021 Institute for Data Science and Big Data online, which is geared to working professionals looking to upgrade their data science skills. The institute will cover the basics of data science, including obtaining relevant data, cleaning and exploring data, creating models, stating inferences, making reliable predictions, and communicating findings. The course consists of a mixture of lectures, guest speakers, and group assignments. Learn more at their website.

Industry Sponsorship Needed for Student Coding Bootcamp
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga will offer a free online R coding bootcamp for high school students and teachers and undergraduate students interested in learning programming skills and investigating the COVID-19 cases in their regions. The bootcamp is currently looking for business sponsorships that could potentially offer prizes for the top-performing students. Learn more at their website.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga will offer a free online R coding bootcamp for those interested in learning programming skills and investigating the COVID-19 cases in their regions. Hack the Hood launched in 2013 introducing early career youth of color, ages 16-25, to technology education and workforce opportunities through web design. For 2021, Hack the Hood is deepening and expanding. South Hub Highlight

South Hub SEEDS - The Southern Engagement and Enrichment in Data Science Program
The South Big Data Hub recently announced multiple seed grant funding awards to various groups across the southern region. A total of six proposals were awarded across three categories ranging from $10,000 to $100,000 in funding: small, mid-range, and large. Winning teams represent 10 out of the 16 states across the region. 

The South Big Data Innovation Hub Seed Grant program is designed to promote collaboration and support the cross-pollination of tools, data, and ideas across disciplines and sectors including academia, industry, government, and communities. Seed grant awards support the southern region and the major goals and priority areas of the South Hub.
