Next Tuesday, December 1, 2020, is GivingTuesday, a global day of generosity. We hope you will join Empowerhouse with your life-changing gift to support victims of domestic violence and their childrenwho, during this pandemic, are more isolated and in danger as they are stuck at home more with their abusers. Over 10,000 children in our community witness family violence each year.
During this time of heightened uncertainty, Empowerhouse continues to support survivors, especially their children, as we Empower a New Generation by providing the resources for greater self-esteem, better self-care, and the skills for a healthy relationship. Our Youth Resiliency Team has put additional caring, creative services into place to further engage and empower children in our Shelter and Housing Program, including:
Supportive and reassuring services through phone calls, texts, and video chats to help children through trauma by maintaining a schedule for check-ins to build trust and consistency
Creating activity folders and boxes for children to have projects to do with their families.
Supporting children in the Shelter by creating sensory stations to provide fun distractions.
Assisting children with school-related assignments and communication skills.
Delivering activities like "seeds of hope" planting kits for our families to spend time together.
Coping skills and an outlet for age-appropriate discussions about COVID-19 to build resilience.
"You listen to me without judgement and help me think of things I can do to deal with my situation."
- Teen in our housing program
This is the positive impact that our services make on young people as we help strengthen them to remain positive about the future – opportunities made possible by your support.
