This song lyric from one of our favorite Music for Minors II (MFMII) songs from Music K8 magazine, really says it at this challenging time for children and families, classroom teachers and principals, docents, and the entire MFMII organization. MFMII is most grateful for everyone, especially all of our wonderful experienced and new volunteer music docents trained virtually this fall. They are the core of our program and have adapted to virtual music lessons in order that children do not miss out on their weekly music lessons needed now more than ever. Thank you also for an amazing staff that continues to make magic happen every day as everyone in MFMII serves from the heart with a steadfast focus on the children we serve.
Despite the negative impact COVID19 has had on MFMII with a loss of half of our docents who need to be home helping their children with distance learning, classroom teachers who simply have no time or funding for MFMII to serve their classrooms, the elimination of our annual children’s showcase or fundraising concert, the need to use alternative recruitment opportunities, MFMII remains committed to our mission of keeping music in children’s classrooms and lives by offering monthly Music and Movement virtual hours, the piloting of an after school musical enrichment at a Title I school, and docents offering virtual lessons or creating videos for classrooms thanks to a supportive staff. The beat must and does go on!
It is therefore appropriate to be so thankful for each and every person in MFMII and our wonderful donors and grantors. However the need is great to support MFMII so that we can reach those thousands of children not served by us this gap year and the countless more who are in great need of music in their classrooms and lives.
Music can heal, inspire, and feed the brain while touching the heart, not to mention how it is a powerful learning tool. All of us need what the power of music offers so that we have hope for a better world and so that children can be empowered and succeed academically and be whole.
