Dear <<First Name>>,

It is amazing to think Christmas is only one month away. We are not sure if we can get together with our families over Christmas due to lockdown restrictions, but this will not keep us from giving gifts! Please consider our gift idea below. We can make a difference to people's lives, one verse at a time. May the Lord bless you during this season and thank you for your continuing partnership in Bible translation.

Our Sponsor a verse idea is ready
(and just in time for Christmas)

We are excited to let you know we have launched our https://www.sponsoraverse.org/  website.

The site is mobile device friendly and we hope you will take advantage of this unique time in the lead up to Christmas to consider Sponsor a Verse as an ideal Christmas gift.

To do this all you need to do is click on the link, choose a verse of Scripture you would like to sponsor, click below it to make a donation, and you will receive this beautiful image through the mail. You will have sponsored a verse of Scripture in the Lughuru language of Tanzania (a people with 1 million speakers and as yet without a Bible).

You can frame this beautiful verse and hang it on your wall, or you can give it as a gift for a loved one THIS Christmas.

Please encourage your friends to support this campaign and the work of Bible translation.

Sponsor a verse explained during an interview with Grace Community Church in Bedford

Lughuru, Tanzania

There are 1 million Lughuru people living on the beautiful Ulughuru mountain range in Morogoro. They are largely farmers but many also travel up and down the mountain to find work in Morogoro town.

When you  "Sponsor a Verse" you help to complete the Lughuru Bible. The team are 60% through the drafting of the Old Testament. The New Testament was published in 2015.

The video clip below bears witness to how God's Word is transforming lives in Tanzania among the Pogolo and Lughuru people groups who live in the Morogoro region.
How the Word of God is transforming the Lughuru people

Please join us in praise for:

  • Sponsor a verse has been launched, which should increase support for the Lughuru team and many other projects in the future. Daniel Davies' wife, Beth, has donated all the art work.
  • Gudrun, a TWFTW consultant from Germany, has finished checking Isaiah, online, with the Roma team of Slovakia. Their Old Testament should be ready for publishing by the end of next year.
  • We praise God for continued opportunities to test new ways of training translators.
Through experimenting with online classroom training, the use of technology applications,
and a trial run with our Learning Management System (Moodle) we had 3 training sessions in November in SE Asia in Hindi, Burmese and Oriya.

Why sponsor a verse?

The rationale behind Sponsor a Verse is it that costs £26 to get each verse of Scripture from first draft stage to publication. This cost includes: field research; training; setting up an office; supporting 3 translators; and checking at the exegetical, review, community and consultant levels; publishing Scripture portions, and then publishing the full Bible. All this usually takes a period of 12 to 15 years.

By sponsoring a verse via www.sponsoraverse.org you are helping to bring God's Word to an entire nation of Bibleless people, transforming their lives, and equipping the saints.

Please pray with us for:

  • 1 millioin Lughuru people need the transforming power of God's Word. Pray for greater impact of the New Testament on their lives, and for the team who is working in the Old Testement.
  • Pray for God to comfort Regine Koroma and her whole family, on the loss of her father recently. As Director of Training, she is very busy, as there is also training in Tanzania (22 projects) and Zambia (6 projects) in November/December.
  • One of our translators, Nitin, from SE Asia also lost his wife. Pray for comfort and strength for him and his 8-year old son.
  • Julia Funnell is doing editing and file management of the training materials. It is a huge amount of work as all our materials are translated and contextualised for the various countries we work in.
  •  The Taabua project in the DRC has recommenced work on the Old Testament. Three new projects are also in the planning stages in the DRC since lockdown has been lifted. Pray for good progress in these projects in this war-torn country.
