The Power of Practice

Writing practice, like practising the piano, brings our skill levels up and teaches us attention to detail but it also gives us confidence, gets rid of writer’s block, and makes our writing richer by accessing areas of our brain that are often locked down.

Registration is free, but space is limited!  Click the link below to register.

Workshop will take place Thursday, November 26th, 2020, from 7:00 - 9:00 pm via Zoom.

Intro to Creative Writing Workshop Webinar – “Courting the Muse”

Are you interested in trying writing? Need a way back into your writing that’s been stalled?

Whether you are an experienced writer or just starting this workshop will create an atmosphere of exploration and validation in bringing your words to the page.

A writer is someone who writes and the Intro to Creative Writing workshop, based on the Amherst Writers and Artists method, ensures all writers are valued and affirmed in a supportive community. Come put your voice on the page and share the joy of writing with others! We will write together to prompts, share our fresh writing aloud (always optional) and receive supportive feedback on what was strong.

Facilitated by WCYR member Carol Teal.

Pacing is the number one element that affects how your reader reacts to your story. It’s the way you, the author, manipulate the reader’s emotions. Even scene-by-scene you can learn to make choices that speed up or slow down the reading. Learn to leave your readers breathless in action scenes or emotionally wrung out in sensitive romantic scenes by judicious use of dialogue, description, transitions, showing vs. telling, and deep POV.

Help Build WCYR’s Partnership with Libraries

We’re looking for WCYR members to lead online seminars in partnership with libraries in York Region.

For this volunteer option, you’ll get the word out about the WCYR and yourself, gain experience in presenting online, and land a solid resume credit. If you’re published, you can tell participants about your books.

If you’d like to share your insights about the craft or journey of writing, please consider this opportunity.
You don’t need to be published to participate.

For details, please contact Rae Keen, Library Liaison, at rae.keen@sympatico.ca .

Workshop Webinar for Children (ages 8-11): A Storytelling and an Exploration of How We Arrive at Creativity

Kindle your creativity. Light a fire within your imagination. Look at all things with an open mind and see from a different perspective.

How do you that? Let your mind and your ideas flow -- and you practice. Every day you write a story about something you have discovered.

To make new discoveries, you look deeper and when you do you will see hidden there a treasure trove of ideas.

WCYR member, Paul Yanuziello, facilitates this children’s workshop for the East Gwillimbury Public Library. Thursday, November 19, 4:30 – 5:30 pm.

email: sharrison@egpl.ca to register.
