VIRTUAL SOIL JUDGING COMPETITION 2020

Sponsored by BeneTerra
Format: The competition will be conducted via zoom sessions organised by the SSA Federal Office. Universities will register teams as per normal.
The competition will comprise two virtual team ‘pits’ and one individual pit.
Participants will be provided with all necessary materials at the beginning of the sessions. Each session will run for one (1) hour. Due to the virtual format, some data will be pre-filled on the profile description sheets – specifically colour and texture.
As per previous competitions, relevant soil chemistry data will also be provided.
The ‘virtual pit’ will be comprised of multiple photographs of a soil pit. There will be a photograph of the whole pit face as well as close-ups of sections of it. Scale will be provided. Requirements will be similar to a normal competition i.e. describe the profile, classify the profile and determine suitability for land uses.
As per previous competitions, participants will be provided with a handbook prior to the competition.
