NEWS, ACTIVITIES & RESOURCES
for UB Residents and Fellows
November 20, 2020  EDITION
Celebrating Thanksgiving During a Pandemic

Thank you to all our residents and fellows. The Office of GME is so honored to have all of you here in Buffalo - learning, working, and caring for members of our community. We recognize the sacrifices you are making during this pandemic, and acknowledge that the holidays will include celebrations and also challenges.

One of our institutional resources is the UB office of EAP, who shared the suggestions below with the UB community.

·     Have everyone present write down what they are grateful for.
·     Indulge by having pie for breakfast.
·     Connect with family members not with you this year.
·     Watch a classic holiday movie (or two).
·     Play a family game (or two).
·     Go for a post-dinner walk.
·     Ask for, and share beloved family stories.
·     Write thank you notes.

UB Employee Assistance Program (EAP) staff are available for meetings with residents, fellows, UB faculty and staff for in person meetings on North campus, online Zoom meetings, telephone conversations, or email communications.  Contact UB EAP via phone: 716-645-4461, e-mail: ub-eap@buffalo.edu , or by completing a “service request form” on their website: buffalo.edu/eap.

Meet times are often during the day – GME encourages program directors, chief residents, and colleagues to support residents and fellows attendance in these groups whenever needed.
Parenting Support Group (UB EAP)
In this group parents will meet and discuss issues related to parenting during these difficult times. Members will exchange ideas and coping strategies, success stories and insights, encouraging words and practical advice. This group will meet virtually on the third Tuesday of each month from 12-1pm. If interested, or for more information, contact Neil McGillicuddy (716-645-4458; nm23@buffalo.edu).
