Youth Ministry

Youth Sunday, February 7, 2021

Last Sunday the youth group gathered by Zoom and chose next year's Youth Sunday theme:  TREE.  Just think of all of the stories in the Bible that involve a tree:  Adam and Eve eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, Isaiah tells us that the trees of the field will clap their hands, Zacchaeus climbs a Sycamore tree to see Jesus, and more.  Want to help lead worship for our entire congregation?  Check out the available leadership parts and sign up today.

No Youth Group on November 22

This is a friendly reminder that our youth groups will not meet this Sunday.  Please join us for Sunday school at 9:45am (see links far below for email contacts) and worship at 11:15am (in person or live stream).  Afterwards, please spend some time with your family!

Outdoor Movie Night, November 29 at 5pm

High school and middle school youth are invited to meet at the church for a special showing of Elf (Common Sense Media Review) in the church driveway.  Instead of a drive-in format, participants are asked to bring a chair and dress comfortably for the weather.  Popcorn, hot chocolate, and bottled water will be provided.  Movie runtime is 97 minutes so we anticipate finishing at 6:45pm.

As usual we will be following our church's Guidelines for Resuming In Person Youth Group Activities

  1. In person youth group activities are held outside and ordinarily limited to one hour per event.
  2. Non-contact temperature checks of all participants are taken upon arrival by a designated youth leader.  Those with a temperature of 100.3 degrees Fahrenheit or less are allowed to participate.
  3. All participants are required to wear masks.  Masks can only be removed to eat or drink (and with adherence to social distancing requirements of maintaining a distance of six feet away from anyone outside one’s family).
  4. Physical contact is prohibited (high fives, fist bumps, hugs, etc.).
  5. Those who are sick, especially vulnerable to COVID-19, or uncomfortable with in person activities should inform a youth leader and only participate in virtual youth group activities.

A Prayer as I Put on My Mask

Creator,
as I prepare to go into the world,
help me to see the sacrament
in the wearing of this cloth -
let it be "an outward sign
of an inward grace" -
a tangible and visible way of living
love for my neighbors,
as I love myself.

Christ,
since my lips will be covered,
uncover my heart,
that people would see my smile
in the crinkles around my eyes.
Since my voice may be muffled,
help me to speak clearly,
not only with my words,
but with my actions.

Holy Spirit,
As the elastic touches my ears,
remind me to listen carefully -
and full of care -
to all those I meet.
May this simple piece of cloth be
shield and banner,
and each breath that it holds,
be filled with your love.
In your Name and
in that love,
I pray.
Amen.

Prayer by the Rev. Richard Bott, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Canada (and shared by church member Bryan Smalley)
