Warden's Parish News 20 November

Dear Friends
This week we have reserved sacrament services – thank you to Tony Date and Michael Newbery who are leading these services.

Please continue to check in with the QR code or by signing the attendance register.  Sanitiser and wipes are available for your use at the back of the church.

Advent Reflection Booklet - Thank you to everyone who has signed up to do a reflection – unfortunately there are a few gaps in the booklet where there was no-one to do a reflection.  A special thank you to those who stepped up and did more than one reflection.

Gardening bee – this was completed last weekend and the gardens look really nice – thank you Pam and the crew for all your hard work.

Brass cleaning - The next brass cleaning is tomorrow - Saturday 21 November from 9.30 am to get everything gleaming for Christmas.
There is a small band of brass cleaners but more people would most welcome.
Please contact Bridget on 022 401 9229 if you are able to help out.

Travelling crib
The travelling crib will be starting its journey around the parish on Advent Sunday, 29 November and will return to church on Christmas Eve in time for Christmas Day.

As in the past the crib will go from household to household weaving its way around the parish. If you would like to have the crib at your house for a few days just add your name and phone number to the list at the back of church.  When the crib comes to you you may like to offer some hospitality to the deliverer – a cup of tea or coffee, even a shared meal if you want to.  It’s a good time to catch up and share with each other.

These donations need to be in by 29 November – the box is up by the pulpit. Please do not wrap the gifts – just place them in the box.  Let’s try and fill the box at least three times!

Here is the list of gift suggestions from Foster Hope.

Advent and Christmas services.
Advent and Christmas are nearly upon us.  As your wardens we have been working hard to try and find priests to take our services during this time – not the easiest of tasks!

Given our small congregation numbers it seemed sensible to combine with another church for some of these services so there will not be a Midnight service here at St Barnabas but we have been invited to join with St John’s, Johnsonville- the service starts at 11pm.  They are also offering a children’s service at 10am on Christmas Eve.

On Christmas Day there will be one combined service at 9.30am taken by Tony Gardiner.  This will be family communion service.

During January the local cluster churches will, as usual, take turns in hosting the 10am service with an 8.30am service each week at St John’s, Johnsonville.  Further details of these services to follow.

And finally, some words from Helen Steiner-Rice based on Psalm 32:11

Be glad that you’ve walked with courage each day,
Be glad you’ve had the strength for each step of the way,
Be glad for the comfort you’ve found in prayer,
But be gladdest of all for God’s tender care.

This is the day to stroll with a confident air.  Jesus is at your side teaching you to walk as He walked.

And one more finally:

Be childlike
Children smile 400 times a day on average, adults 15 times.
Children laugh 150 times a day…adults 6
Children play4-6 hours a day…adults only 20 mins.
What has happened?

God bless,

Flora and Lee
