A Marin County poll worker shared this with us:
“I want to congratulate you on the work you've done in engaging new voters. I worked at the Pickleweed polling location and was so impressed at how many young first-time Latino voters came to vote throughout the four days. Makes me feel optimistic about the future of our country.”

2020 Census wrap-up: we made an impact! The 2020 Census officially ended on October 15th. Despite the many challenges presented by the coronavirus pandemic, wildfires, social justice unrest and changes to the census itself, the final self-response rates for Canal census tracts are at 61.6% and 66.4%. Marin County finished with an overall self-response rate of 76.3% ahead of California at 69.6%, the U.S. at 67%, and 4% higher than the county’s rate of response in the 2010 census survey.

Canal Policy Working Group To advocate for the protection of local families, workers, and businesses, Canal Alliance formed the Canal Policy Working Group (CPWG) in partnership with Community Action Marin and Legal Aid of Marin. A resolution by the CPWG, which includes recommendations for rent stabilization, a minimum wage increase, small business loans and grants, and investments in affordable housing has been approved by The San Rafael City Council and the Marin County Board of Supervisors.

Meet Delila, a new citizen and first-time voter On election day, after attending our citizenship classes, studying the material with our Immigration and Legal Services staff, and passing her civics exam, Delila was sworn in as a U.S. citizen. Then she rushed back to register and vote for the first time at her polling location in Pickleweed Community Center in the Canal. Of her exhilarating experience, she says, “I feel very happy because I achieved my dream of becoming a U.S. Citizen and because I was able to vote that same day, the day of the presidential election. I never thought it would happen to me. I am very grateful.”
Congratulations, Delila, we are thrilled to be part of your citizenship journey!
Your input is needed for Marin County transportation surveys Please take the following surveys to help shape the future of the San Rafael Transit Center and changes to The Transportation Authority of Marin (TAM) bus service. TAM seeks the results from a survey asking about the feasibility and benefits of allowing buses to bypass heavy traffic on US 101 by using the existing shoulder between Atherton Avenue/San Marin Drive in Novato and Mission Avenue in San Rafael. The Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District works with the community to relocate and improve the San Rafael Transit Center in downtown San Rafael. The goal is to create a safer, more accesible center providing better rider connections.
Kaiser Permanente provides free flu shots Kaiser Permanente, in partnership with Marin Health and Human Services, offered flu vaccines to adults and children free of charge during our weekly food pantry distribution. Here, Alejandro Lara, Communications Coordinator receives flu vaccine information from a Kaiser health care worker.
Thank you, Kaiser Permanente, for keeping our community safe!
