Phase 2 Trichogramma Wasp Trial

Phase 2 of the Trichogramma Wasp Trial commenced in Ascot.

These little packets contain 1000 Trichogramma. Trichogramma are minute wasps, less than 0.5 mm long. They are not at all dangerous to humans or the environment, in fact, they are stingless! However, they are a natural predator of the looper caterpillar, one of the well-known pests in our local area. Looper caterpillar droppings can discolour roads, car paint and other surfaces.

Trichogramma wasps have been used to control caterpillar pests in a wide range of horticultural and field crops throughout Australia. The next steps will be for our officers to determine the effectiveness of this second phase via investigation.

Crosby Road Bushcare Murals Complete!

Crosby Road Bushcare Group submitted an application for a Lord Mayor's Community Fund Grant to paint murals on the storage shed and water pipe. These works look great thanks to the work of talented artist Margaret Lipinska.

The next working bee is on this Saturday 28th November from 8am - 10am. If you can offer a few hours of your time it would be very much appreciated. They will be meeting at the Crosby Road steps. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear, bring gloves, a water bottle and wear a hat and sunscreen.

Brisbane Carbon Challenge

Ever wondered what your carbon footprint is? Or how you can reduce it?

How does it work? Well, it's simple! Check out the link below to find out how here.

New Dog Tags

Brisbane has earned its reputation as a dog-friendly city, with nearly 40% of Brisbane homes now owning a four-legged family member - up 10% over the past year.
However, with just 50% of dogs registered with Brisbane City Council, we’re rolling out new designer dog tags to encourage responsible pet ownership and to help reunite owners and their four-legged friends quickly if they’re ever separated.

The tags will be available from mid-December. For more information in the meantime, you can visit here and follow the links.

Lord Mayor's Seniors Christmas Parties

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner has announced that the Lord Mayor's Seniors Christmas Parties will be going ahead! The reaction from the community was so great that this year, for the first time, there are five additional evening shows on Tuesday 1 December, Wednesday 2 December, Thursday 3 December, Monday 7 December and Tuesday 8 December. There are still a few tickets left so be quick and call Qtix on 13 62 46 or book online here.

E-bikes come to Brisbane

Council have seen how popular e-scooters have been and it is exciting to announce that e-bikes will be joining the trend with a new public hire scheme coming to Brisbane next year as part of an e-mobility strategy released this week.
We live in a hot, humid city and by introducing more e-wheeling options, we can get more people out of their cars, reducing congestion and helping to keep our city clean and sustainable. For further information and to have your say, click here.

Going PINK in Our Gardens

The Hamilton Neighbourhood Hub decorated their gardens and trees pink for Breast Cancer Awareness and raised $771

The funds raised will assist Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) to continue to provide their free services and resources to people with Breast Cancer. People's support means BCNA plays a vital advocacy role in ensuring all Australians who are affected by breast cancer receive the very best care, treatment and support.

“We know it’s been a challenging year but you have dug deep to support those Australians affected by breast cancer and we could not be more grateful.” -  BCNA

Anti-Theft Screws

In order to help as many members of the community as possible to properly secure their vehicles’ registration plates, the North Brisbane District Crime Prevention Unit has developed packs containing anti-theft screws.

Anti-theft screws are a special type of ‘one-way’ screw which when used to attach your registration plate to your vehicle, can only be removed with a specially designed tool.

This special removal tool is not sold to members of the public and can only be used by police officers.

With this simple step, you can save yourself the cost and trouble of having to replace stolen number plates.

If you are a North Brisbane resident, not only can you pick up free anti-theft screws from your local police station, but you can also order them online using a simple form. You can find out more information here.
