A MESSAGE FROM THE COMMODORE

Good Day fellow Club Members

Merger talks are ongoing with, as always, the choice of buildings being the main sticking point. My suggestion to keep the RNYC building as a Food and Beverage operation has its objectors as well as supporters. Like any business it has to be profitable to survive, so any decisions on this are likely only to be taken at the end of the club year. Currently your team are doing a great job and the vibe at the club is amazing. We have held some great events and even opened the Britannia Room on Sundays. We thank you for your support.

Further to the opening of their Durban Beach club site the PYC has  proposed that, subject to having a paid a once-off fee of R500 + R75 card activation, that RNYC members will enjoy access to and member prices at both Charlies bar in PYC building and their Durban Beach Club. This will be valid until the end of the current financial year (May 2021). The issuing of access cards will be dealt with by Club management. Continued access following the end of the financial year will be dealt with at that time, depending upon progress achieved in the merger negotiations.

On the evening of the 27th November we are holding the draw for our L26 racing yacht, B2G2. Well over 100 tickets have been sold, and apart from those who want to own and sail the best L26 in KZN, there has been many just supporting our Club. There is a good possibility B2G2 will go back on auction the very same night, so if you are unlucky with the draw, those wanting the boat can have another chance to own her. We will also be auctioning some amazing nautical artifacts valued at well over R20 000 on the night, and the Club expects to raise some serious cash to help with our sustainability and reduce our debt burden.

Members are reminded that subscriptions go a long way in maintaining our Club, and those who still have not paid please Do The Right Thing !!!!

STAFF GRATUITIES

With the festive season approaching, members are urged to take note of all the effort and hard work put into the Club over the course of the year by our loyal staff who have been work under some unexpected and trying circumstances to meet the needs of members and their guests.

As is customary at this time of year, we encourage members to donate generously to the staff gratuity fund in hopes of bringing some Christmas spirit to our staff and their families after a challenging year.

We will have gratuity boxes posted throughout the Clubhouse, with gratuity slips made available for members to complete. You are also welcome to send an email to Shaneé on admin@rnyc.org.za.
