HMRC may not give you the third self-employed grant

HMRC have emailed 24,000 businesses they believe may not qualify for the third grant, and may have to repay grants 1 and 2. If no reply is received before close of play today, they will block any application for the grant.
Self-employed business owners (including partners in a partnership) should check their junk mail and spam filters for a message from HMRC.

HMRC have built their list from a couple of sources; if your 2020 Tax Return has declared a cessation date, or if you have de-registered from VAT you may be on that list. Of course, deregistering from VAT does not mean you have ceased trading (your turnover may have just dropped below the threshold of £83,000), but if you're on HMRC's list, you must respond by close of play today (20 November).

If you fit in either category above, please check your email folders very carefully. Even if you don't, please do a quick search for any HMRC emails, then proceed with caution.

They will have used the email address you gave during the first/second SEISS claim process, and therefore, your accountant/tax agent will not get a copy of this email.

Take care when opening any email purporting to be from HMRC as scammers love to use this persona to get your personal details. There is a form to complete and a link to it within the message, which is a classic scammer tactic.

REMEMBER - NEVER GIVE OUT PERSONAL DETAILS IN RESPONSE TO AN UNSOLICITED EMAIL!

If you are in any doubt, forward the email to us, and we'll check it over for you.

Kind regards
