Nov 2020 In November, we continued our efforts to share our research to help address the health needs of the fire service: mental health, women firefighters' health, physical fitness, and public safety personnel families.
This edition also features new studies by other scientists: exercise training programs, cervical cancer screening, fatality and injury claims, and sleep quality.

What's New at FIREWELL Research by FIREWELL members The internet is a fire hose of information on PTSD. But can firefighters access and trust what they find online?
A new FIREWELL study searched and evaluated the quality of 75 PTSD websites. Our summary identified 10 online resources that firefighters can use as a starting point for PTSD information.

NEW STUDY: Firehouse Values and Culture The Center for Fire, Rescue and EMS Health Research (Lead: Dr. Sara Jahnke) is looking for firefighters to answer a survey on harassment, bullying, assault and resilience in the fire service.
The research findings be used to determine best practices, shape future efforts to curtail these concerns, and identify ways to appropriately train personnel to respond to concerns.
ALL firefighters--career, volunteer, east coast, west coast, central, men, women--are invited to participated!

The 1-hour webinars, hosted by CIPSRT and CIHR, will share the research results from the 22 CIHR catalyst grants that funded projects on post-traumatic stress injuries among public safety personnel. The presentations will also be available as video recordings (registration required).
