Loreto Highlights Update - 20th November 2020
United Against Bullying
The children have been learning about the anti-bullying initiative this week. They watched a promotional video, then discussed the importance of acting quickly when faced with a situation where you could be the target of bullying. In Years 3 and 5 the children designed anti-bullying posters to raise awareness.  The children have learnt about how valuable being a good friend can be to someone who is being bullied. How,  as a group,  we should be encouraging each other by praising each other's strengths and the importance of ‘loving your neighbour as you love yourself’ (Matthew 22:39) as Jesus taught us.
We all unanimously agree that bullying is wrong! We say ‘No to bullying!’
Year 1
Year 1 have had a busy week!  We have enjoyed ICT, have participated in Anti-bullying Week and enjoyed the smell of our new class diffuser!
Faith Diary
On this first Sunday of Advent the Gospel message is ‘be prepared!’  We all enjoy the flurry and hurry of
getting ready for Christmas, but this year - of all years! -  we should pause and consider what aspects of our lives we really need to prepare, and maybe repair,  in order to be spiritually as well materially ready to welcome the coming of our Saviour.
Traffic Free Tuesdays
Loreto pupils and teachers continue to walk to school as a group every Tuesday morning, supporting the Traffic Free Tuesday initiative started last year. Do you come in from the border? Do you live in town or in the south district? Do you want to join us and show our community that walking to school is fun and indeed possible? Contact the school office for details on how to join this wonderful Tuesday morning activity.
Parent's Weekly Focus - Cyber Bullying
This week's online safety focus for parents is looking at Cyber bullying to fit in with our Bullying Awareness Week. There are lots of simple things you can do as a parent / carer to ensure that you feel confident about your child’s online use and spot early signs that could show your child is being bullied online.  Take a look at these tips to find out about what you can do if you or your child is being bullied online.

School Gardening
Fresh air and sun after a hard day of learning, what better way to relax for our year six gardening club members?  Two weeks ago the children had sown seeds, the seedlings are already growing ahead of the children leaning how to thin and plant on into pots.  The children have been busy preparing the gardening beds ready for planting and have learnt about how teh wormeries work, setting this up.  Cuttings were taken last week of mint and rosemary from the school garden and the children have learnt about the process of rooting plant cuttings, we aim to see some results in the next couple of weeks.  Mr Devincenzi-Clemens has been impressed that the children would like to start a Gardening Video series to help teach other children about gardening, YouTube here we come!
Lego Robotics
The teams are chosen, team names still to follow, however the Year 6 Lego Robotics children have been very excited to set up Lego® Mindstorms kits and learn how the coding software works.

Year 5 Cross Curricula
Pupils in year 5 have been working on a piece of work linking History, English and Digital Literacy.  This has enabled the pupils to create a factual PowerPoint presentation.  The children have learnt key skills in researching content and applying effects to their presentations.  Luna's presentation can be viewed below.
3D Modelling
Year 6 have been looking at both physical and computer generated modelling.  The children have drawn on paper a small tag, modelled this to scale in cardboard, designed it using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software and then learnt how to process this into g-code manufacturing this on the 3D Printer.
