The Translational Science Interagency Fellowship (TSIF) program, sponsored by the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) and the FDA, provides training in both translational and regulatory science. Fellows will be trained in preclinical translational science, technology development and regulatory research and review. This three-year program will enable fellows to build awareness of regulatory requirements into the early stages of medical product development to improve efficiencies in the development and review processes. Applications are due Friday, January 15, 2021. Contact Scott Steele for questions.

Pilot Awards from the Rochester Roybal Center & UR Aging Institute

The Rochester Roybal Center for Social Ties & Aging Research (The Roc STAR Center) and the UR Aging Institute are co-sponsoring pilot awards focused on promoting the social well-being and healthy aging of those caring for a family member with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias. There are currently two pilot award opportunities: the STAR Constellation Pilot Award and the ProtoSTAR Pilot Award. RocHealthData Explores Native American Health Disparities

November is Native American Heritage month - a time to recognize and celebrate Native American heritage and culture. The UR CTSI and Center for Community Health and Prevention also want to raise awareness of the long-standing health disparities experienced by American Indian and Alaskan Native communities. Learn more on RocHealthData and visit the map room to view data about Native Americans’ demographics overlaid with information about health disparities in rural areas.

URMC Startup to Develop Neurological Therapies

Oscine Therapeutics – a biotechnology company that is developing cell-based therapies for neurological disorders based on discoveries made at URMC – has been acquired by Sana Biotechnology. The research behind Oscine is based on decades of work in the lab of Steve Goldman, M.D., Ph.D., professor of Neurology and Neuroscience and co-director of the URMC Center for Translational Neuromedicine. Goldman, who was Oscine’s president and scientific founder, joins Sana as senior vice-president and head of Central Nervous System Therapy. He will also remain on the URMC faculty.
