It was a busy first week back in the Legislative Assembly for the Green Caucus. This week, David tabled a bill to create a cap on rental increases in New Brunswick, and ensure that rent can only be increased once per year.
What David said:
With a return to majority government, David spoke about the important role of the Legislative Assembly in exercising control over the actions of the Premier and cabinet. In Question Period, David asked the Premier if he will implement the recommendations of his Council on Disabilities. When Minister Holland spoke about the government’s interest in small modular nuclear reactors, David questioned if they had done their homework to ensure they don’t get scammed.
What Megan said:
This week, Megan sounded the alarm on the affordable housing crisis in New Brunswick. In Question Period, she asked the Minister of Health about the status of creating a mental health advocate, as the Legislature had unanimously agreed to last year. Megan also said that the government needs to stop neglecting rural regions and start investing in them.
What Kevin said:
In Question Period, Kevin asked the Minister of Finance about who oversees the regulation of monopolies in New Brunswick, but didn’t receive an answer. Kevin also spoke about the critical shortage of affordable housing in his riding as landlords sell rental homes to new owners from Ontario. In response to the government’s throne speech including a plan to invest in nuclear, with no mention of solar or wind, Kevin warned the government about getting scammed on unproven technology, as happened with JOI Scientific.
