November/December Training Meeting - 12/3/2020, 8pm
The Job of an EMA Director

Join us online on Thursday, December 3 at 8pm for our monthly Georgia AUXC Training Meeting. This month's presentation will be "The Job of an EMA Director" by Hall County EMA Director Casey Ramsey and GEMA Area 1 Field Coordinator Don Strength. Because of the holiday season, this training meeting has been combined for both November and December.  We will return to our regular schedule after the holidays in January 2021.

NOTE: This is the rescheduled meeting that was originally going to be held on 10/29.

About our speaker

This month our guest speaker will be Casey Ramsey, EMA Director for Hall County, Georgia. Casey's job means coordinating responses for various public safety agencies, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector during large incidents. He notes that the job carries a lot of responsibility, being personally responsible for the 200,000+ citizens that live in Hall County, GA. Casey got his start as a firefighter and grew up in a public safety household. His father was a firefighter and paramedic.

This online meeting is open and free for interested amateur radio operators, ARES members, and anyone else with an interest in Emergency Communications.  You do not have to be a member of Georgia AUXCOMM to attend.  We hope you'll join us. Here's the connection information:

Georgia AUXC / ARES support the 2020 Georgia Death Race

NORTH GEORGIA
Saturday, 11/7 - Sunday, 11/8/2020

Georgia AUXC teamed up with Georgia ARES to provide communications support for the rescheduled 2020 Georgia Death Race on Saturday, November 7 through Sunday, November 8.  The Georgia Death Race is a 74-ish mile grueling ultramarathon that traverses some of the most rugged and remote sections of North Georgia. Normally held in the spring, this year's race was rescheduled for the fall due to COVID-19.

In addition to a rescheduled date, this year's race featured a new course that started and finished at Reece Farm & Heritage Center in Blairsville, GA.  Amateur radio operators from AUXC and ARES staffed aid stations across the course.  Here's a course map:
