Office of Diversity Enhancement Sharing News and Opportunities of Interest
Dear Einstein Community,
I hope this message finds you well.
My name is Ashley Castillo, a first-year medical student and a team member of Bronx One Policy. Bronx One Policy (BOP) is a student-led group aimed at advancing policy efforts that impact healthcare delivery in the Bronx.
We meet with community organizations and policymakers each week, and learn about the work they are doing around a diverse range of issues, including education, transit, food security, community organizing, and housing.
We further engage with these communities on our podcast, The Healthy Bronx.
I encourage you to check out our most recent podcast episode!
Episode Description:
We interview Desmon Lewis, co-founder of The Bronx Community Foundation. We explore The Bronx Community Foundation's efforts to raise $16 million for Bronx COVID relief since the onset of the pandemic – this includes PPE distribution, small business relief, and personal micro-grants. We also discuss Digital Equity and access to broadband (high-speed internet) in the Bronx, which The Bronx Community Foundation views as one of the leading issues impacting families and communities throughout the Bronx.
The Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) invites faculty members to apply for Catalytic Seed Grants for research projects to generate preliminary data for extramural funding applications to address health equity and health disparities-related research.
Proposals are expected to use rigorous research methods to address disparities in health care and outcomes at the individual, group, system, or population level. While any disease or health-related condition may be chosen, the applicant must focus on specific issues and problems associated with disparities in health status which disproportionately affect disadvantaged social groups that systematically experience worse health or greater health risks than more advantaged groups. Proposal budgets are limited to $25,000.00 for one year, with funding to start on or about March 1, 2021.
Recipients must hold the rank of Assistant Professor or higher at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine at the time of the award. The required application components are: abstract, budget, budget justification, research plan (limited to 5 pages), literature cited, and NIH biosketches for all key personnel. Proposals are due by COB on Monday, January 4, 2021 and should be emailed as a single PDF document to elizabeth.castro@einsteinmed.org. For more information, click here.
