Blessings

The Christian band Rend Collective is one of my favorite bands. It's not unusual to hear them playing around our house and in the car. Yesterday on the way home the song "Counting Every Blessing" came on and as we were all singing along in the car it brought up a conversation that lots of families have this time of year. What are your blessings? What are you thankful for this time of year?
Being that we were on our way home on Friday afternoon, I asked each of my kids what things they are thankful for at school. Like they always do, kids have a way of bringing levity to situations. My youngest is most thankful for art at school. See, at home she has an entire cabinet of hastily organized art supplies and a pile of abandoned crafts. At school she is able to combine her love for art with learning. My oldest, the quirkiest of my kids, without blinking shared he was thankful for his friends. We live on a farm where it's easy for a kid to feel isolated from other kids their age; school is the primary place he can socialize. Lastly, my Matt. Matt is the child God gave me to better understand challenging students. He humbles me daily. I prepared myself for his usual answers of gym or lunch as the best part of school but from the back seat of the van he chimed in that the best thing about school this year is learning about Jesus.

You see, that's it.  It's that simple. The best part about Central is that we get to share in our love of God. We get to learn from His word and rejoice in the promise of eternal life. This year, 2020, has no doubt been one that has many of us shaking our heads. I frequently find myself falling into the trap of thinking of all the things that we've missed or things that have changed as a result of the current health crisis. As 2 Corinthians 9:8 says, "and God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work." It's important in this season of peaks and valleys to always be looking for those blessings from God. This week, as the lyrics say, seek out the things around you, big and small, that are blessings, and give thanks to God for them.

In Christ,
Mrs. Sorg

An Update from Mr. Weber:

My chemo officially ended in early October, but my side effects continued on through the month, to the point where I had a scan to make sure I didn't have any new tumors. Those scans came back clear, so that was great news! I am considered cancer-free! However, since cancer had been found in some lymph nodes, I am continuing with radiation treatments. This is more preventative than anything else. Right now, I am doing well. Once the radiation is over, which should be in early December, I will have a full body scan to make sure that I am cancer free, and then I will have scans every 3 months or so.

I am working at rebuilding my strength and stamina. I am trying to walk around the little park in my neighborhood every day. I am stretching and doing some light calisthenic exercises as well. It is a slow recovery, but I am determined to be ready come January.

I know I say this every time, but I cannot say it enough: Thank you so very much for the emails, letters, cards, notes, text messages, meals, rides for my children... the outpouring of love you have shown us all is just so overwhelming. I cannot thank you enough. God bless you all!

Christmas Programs

Due to COVID restrictions we have made the decision to change the way we will share the news of Christ's birth this year. Our traditional way of splitting classes for practices for church services involves too much mixing of classes and grades to maintain our safety protocols. In place of our separate church services we will work to create a digital service that we can share with our families and church members. This provides a unique opportunity for you to share your children with family members everywhere.

WHAT'S HAPPENING?

Mrs. Guenthner's Kindy Prep Cubs

We started the month of November with our costume dress up day that the whole school was awarded for reaching our goal in the Walk-A-Thon!
We spend our week learning our letters, counting and playing math games, practicing writing our names and numbers, reading books, playing with our friends in our classroom, and learning about Jesus. We enjoy finding the letters in our name in our own sensory bins that are filled with corn kernels this month. This class is growing and learning every day as we get ready for Kindergarten next fall!
This month we've talked about the many things that we are thankful for such as our families, pets, friends, teachers, homes, food, and most importantly, God. I am very thankful for the preschoolers in our Kindy Prep class!
