Announcing Nine Fabulous Patrons on the Theatre’s 91st Birthday

We have just announced our new Patrons and creative industry supporters who are all behind the campaign to save Streatham Hill Theatre for the benefit of the community.
Catherine Russell, Paul Merton, Baroness Floella Benjamin, DBE, DL,
Samira Ahmed, Simon Callow, CBE, Jessica Thom,
Robert Glenister, Renato Balsadonna, and Sir Mark Rylance
are our Patrons. They all have connections to Streatham or South London.

Plus over 100 creative industry individuals and organisations have given their support to the campaign.

We welcome them to the campaign with real gratitude!

From our website blog

We are regularly adding more to our blog on our website, including historic events over the life of Streatham Hill Theatre, right back to 1927. Do take a look, and if you have any memories, programmes or photos we could add please drop us a line.

91 years ago...in November 1929

The Streatham Hill Theatre was due to open, offering “West End shows at provincial prices”, on Monday 18th November 1929, but wasn’t quite ready.

It was ready enough to open on the Wednesday, 20th November 1929, with the C. B. Cochran revue Wake up and Dream.

A lavish programme was published telling the story of the theatre and its features. The Stage newspaper covered the opening in its 21st November edition, saying that “The Theatre on Streatham Hill provides south side suburbs with a playhouse of which they can be justly proud.

Theatre opens: 20th November 1929

Last year we celebrated the 90th birthday with celebrities and cake!
