November 2020
Support the Club's Holiday Mandarin Fundraiser
Whether you want to send a taste of home to family and friends or distribute a unique gift to your clients, friends or service providers, the Loomis Soroptimist club has you covered. Thanks to our member, Terry, the club is selling bags and boxes of mandarins grown by her family at Bearing Fruit Orchards in Penryn.
Tell your friends that a seven pound bag of mandarins is $15 or get the mandarins specially packed in boxes for $18, ready for an address label and postage. The fruit will be ready in early December.
Club members should take orders from friends and submit their first order by November 30 with how many bags and boxes you'd like to Cyndie Whitefoot.  If everyone in the club sells 24 bags/boxes, we'll raise $4,000.
Congratulations to our own Jenny Knisley
Jenny has handily won a seat on Loomis Town Council, which puts her in line to be Mayor in 2022.
She has been Director of Loomis Chamber of Commerce for the past 11 1/2 years and has worked tirelessly to make this community a better place.
We are so proud of her!
Soroptimist Supports our Seniors
On Thursday, December 17, our club will continue the tradition of preparing the holiday meal for the Senior LIFE Center. If you’d like to help, contact Jenny. We need support prepping the food, cooking, packing it in containers, cleaning up and delivering the meals.

Several club members have been driving meals to homebound seniors on the days when the Loomis Senior LIFE Center offers meals to over 80 seniors for p
ick up. This past month, meals on November 5 and 18 were delivered by club members Alaire, Becky and friend Sarah.  We look forward to seeing our regulars,” said Becky. “They were overjoyed with the food.”

Let Alaire know if you’d occasionally be able to deliver meals, this month or in the future:
  • December 3rd-Deliveries only
  • December 17th-Annual Christmas dinner preparation by SILB and/or help with deliveries
Participants Delighted with the Pumpkins Succulent Project

At our October 21 club program meeting, 64 participants gathered at the Train Depot Park as well as by Zoom at member’s offices and homes for a fun, creative evening assembling succulents on pumpkins. Organized by Rae, members had everything they needed to build picture perfect masterpieces to celebrate the fall season. Through her negotiation skills and with community support from Home Depot in Lincoln and Trader Joes, it turned into a small fund raiser, contributing nearly $950 to support education programs. And five information packets were distributed to prospective members.  A big thank you to KSJ Electric for loaning and setting up lighting that night for the evening event!
Welcome to the Loomis Soroptimist club, Bev
In November, Shari Lynn installed Beverly Proctor as a new member of the Loomis Soroptimist club.
"I've lived in Rocklin for 36 years," said Proctor.  "I've been married to Alan for 39 years and we have two grown boys.  Some of my interests are traveling, biking, golf and happy hours with my girlfriends when I'm not working at a part-time job.  My favorite sport is baseball and I'm a huge A's fan.  I'm really excited to be part of the Soroptimist team and making the world a better place for women and girls!"
Our club is so happy to have you as a new member.
Soroptimist Smile Stones
Using acrylic pens, members decorated stones with positive messages during the social time before our November business meeting.
The stones have been placed in parks around Loomis to bring smiles to the finders’ faces.
Members Focus on Days for Girls Project

With a goal on completing 200 Days for Girls Kits that include many components, members are now working on the multiple shields that are included in each kit. The washable sanitary kits help keep girls from missing days of school so they get the most from their education. The club November 18 program meeting included member-made appetizers--be sure and ask Mechelle for her beautiful kale & beet salad recipe!
Support Loomis Basin Food Program
Our club usually co-sponsors the Loomis Chamber of Commerce Holiday mixer that raises thousands of dollars for the Loomis Basin Christmas Basket Program. Although the mixer can’t be held because of the pandemic, families are in need and we can help.
If you know someone in need, applications are available at the Loomis Chamber of Commerce on 6090 Horseshoe Bar Rd and the First United Methodist Church at 6414 Brace Rd., both in Loomis.
Instead of a basket, families will receive gift cards on December 13, so there won’t be a need for volunteers to pack food. If you’d like to make a tax deductible donation, send it to Loomis Basin  Christmas Basket, PO Box 687, Loomis CA 95650.
