A Veteran Finds a Safe Home

Amani joined the National Guard right out of high school   She looked forward to serving her country,  but an unforeseen accident changed all that when an explosion occurred on the firing range.  The accident led to lack of sleep, depression and damage to her eye sight.

"I ended up homeless, living in my car and showering at the local gym. I had no motivation to live, but God had other plans so I went to the VA for help.  During a visit there, I was given a card for Women of Hope."

"Women of Hope has provided a second chance for me. At a time in my life when I felt like nothing or no one was there for me, I was to Women of Hope.  With Women of Hope by my side I was given the chance  to get my PTSD to a place where I could start living again. I found people who embraced me with no judgment, people who shared the love of God with me while helping me through the toughest stage of my life."

"Women of Hope gave me a stable environment that helped me establish habits that helped me stabilize my mental illness. I don't know where I would be right now had I not came across Women of Hope and for that I will always be grateful."

Meet Board President Theresa Medsker

Theresa is employed by a local, family owned and operated manufacturing company as Office and Inside Sales Manager.  This fast-paced atmosphere extends into Theresa’s personal life as well. In 2014, life circumstances gave her a deep appreciation of how faith-based assistance to women transitioning from incarceration, homeless veterans, and women who have experienced various forms of trauma helps them develop stronger character and a deeper purpose for their lives. She is committed to Women of Hope by actively participating in the Living in the Solution Program. Her passion for helping others has led her to receive a Life Coach Certification, and the Ohio Chemical Dependency Board’s CDCA Certification. She has counseled women in her local church’s Intensive Outpatient Spiritual Care Program (ISC), the Christ-centered model in the form of IOP and she has facilitated a weekly Life Recovery Group at her church. In her spare time she enjoys her family and all things Cleveland…The Browns, Indians, Cavs and The Ohio State Buckeyes.
