Northern Rata at Mt Bruce by Wei-Hang Chua

Kia ora

As we near the end of 2020, many of us will be reflecting on what a challenging year it has been, but we also have much to celebrate and look forward to in 2021.

Within the Pūkaha to Kawakawa Alliance, we have seen the launch of a number of significant projects and it has been exciting to see support grow for conservation work in the Wairarapa.

Equally, it has been just as rewarding to see individuals and smaller groups continue to quietly put in the mahi every year to improve our biodiversity and health of our waterways. We should all be proud of our efforts.

We are looking forward to continuing to support groups and projects in 2021 and the opportunity to share, collaborate, network and learn at our Hui in February.

On behalf of the Trust and Forum, I wish you all a safe and happy holiday.

Ngā mihi nui,

Gill Murray
Interim Chair

Waipoua Connection

If you need some planting done, you can give a bunch of kids some spades. But if you get them to explore an area, find out a bit about its’ history and create links between them and the planting site, you’re going to get a whole lot more than just plants in the ground. You’ll get kids with a sense of connection to a place that is way more likely to transform into a long-term relationship that benefits both the people and the place.
