Ancient Caves continues to wow as it wins the Intrepid Award at the Ft. Lauderdale Film Festival
The film will open in China and other markets next year as it continues its global roll-out
MFF's new release Ancient Caves, from filmmaker Jonathan Bird, had its official 3D premiere at the Ft. Lauderdale International Film Festival last month where it won the Intrepid Award, an award that salutes fearless filmmaking and groundbreaking technology in a film.
But it was the film's immersive 3D imagery that so impressed Armando Mena, IMAX Theater Director at the Museum of Discovery and Science in Ft. Lauderdale where the film premiered.

The stunning cinematography is breathtaking with the depth of the 3D!" said Mena. "I could not look away. I was immersed in the film as I imagined myself in those tight caves.”
Director Jonathan Bird and cinematographer Zach Peterson were in Ft. Lauderdale to attend the premiere and walk the red carpet. "Finally getting to see the film in an IMAX Laser 3D theater was a real thrill," said Bird. "You couldn't ask for a more immersive experience, and I cannot wait for audiences to experience the film this way."
Now Playing in 3D Theaters in Lucerne and Galveston
Ancient Caves recently opened in other 3D theaters, including the Swiss Transport Museum in Lucerne and Moody Gardens in Galveston. The reviews there are equally enthusiastic. “I’m so excited about the quality of Ancient Caves in 3D. It's FANTASTIC!" said Roland Baggenstos, Technical Manager and Chief Projectionist in Lucerne.
Exhibitions Set for Science Museums in China
Starting next year, three theaters in China will open the film for lengthy exhibitions. These include the
China Science & Technology Museum in Beijing, the
Hangzhou Low Carbon Science & Technology Museum, and the
Hong Kong Science Museum.
As more theaters continue to re-open, the film is bound to leave audiences on the edge of their seats with its story of scientists and explorers searching for clues that unlock the secrets of our planet.

"Audiences can expect to see things they’ve never seen before as they explore these beautiful worlds that most of us will never visit in our lifetimes.”
Dive Into Another World
Ancient Caves brings science and adventure together as it follows paleoclimatologist Dr. Gina Moseley on a mission to unlock the secrets of the Earth’s climate in the most unlikely of places: caves. Moseley and her team of cave explorers travel the world exploring vast underground worlds in search of stalagmite samples - geologic “fingerprints” - that reveal clues about the planet’s climate history.
Their quest leads them to some of the world’s most remote caves, both above and below water, in France, Iceland, the Bahamas, the U.S. and Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. Together, they go where very few humans will ever go, revealing the incredible lengths scientists will go to study the unknown.
Ancient Caves is a MacGillivray Freeman Films presentation directed by Jonathan Bird with support from the Giant Dome Theater Consortium. The film is narrated by actor Bryan Cranston.
