Phonurgia Nova Awards
I am happy that STRANGE STRANGERS received the Prix Paysage Sonore in this year’s Phonurgia Nova Awards, an international competition for audio art.
Super grateful to the jury members (Floriane Pochon, Juliette Volcler, Benoît Hické, François Nida, Lionel Viard, Marc Namblard) for their thoughtful comments during the public discussion at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France in Paris in October, to the Musée Réattu, and the Phonurgia Nova team.
Special thanks to the organisations supporting this project at different stages, from field listening to studio production, and to everyone who helped.
The piece was originally commissioned by R(A)DIO(CUSTICA) for the Czech Radio (Český rozhlas Vltava ČRo 3), first aired in October 2019.
From the jury’s comments:
“The first sequence guides us inwards and beautifully implements the radical ecological approach developed by the philosopher Vinciane Despret: that of placing ourselves in relation to other animal species as individuals in relation to other individuals, of perceiving them not simply as representatives of their vast family, but in their singularity as subjects” - Juliette Volcler (Phonurgia Nova)
