strange strangers ~ LUCIA festival

Next Saturday, December 12, at 15:20 (CET), STRANGE STRANGERS will be aired at LUCIA festival, from Manifattura Tabacchi in Florence. I will be talking a little bit to accompany the broadcast.

Check the full festival programme and listen ON AIR and ONLINE, 12-13 December 2020. Curated by Ilaria Gadenz and Carola Haupt (Radio Papesse).

Phonurgia Nova Awards

I am happy that STRANGE STRANGERS received the Prix Paysage Sonore in this year’s Phonurgia Nova Awards, an international competition for audio art.

Super grateful to the jury members (Floriane Pochon, Juliette Volcler, Benoît Hické, François Nida, Lionel Viard, Marc Namblard) for their thoughtful comments during the public discussion at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France in Paris in October, to the Musée Réattu, and the Phonurgia Nova team.

Special thanks to the organisations supporting this project at different stages, from field listening to studio production, and to everyone who helped.

The piece was originally commissioned by R(A)DIO(CUSTICA) for the Czech Radio (Český rozhlas Vltava ČRo 3), first aired in October 2019.

From the jury’s comments:

“The first sequence guides us inwards and beautifully implements the radical ecological approach developed by the philosopher Vinciane Despret: that of placing ourselves in relation to other animal species as individuals in relation to other individuals, of perceiving them not simply as representatives of their vast family, but in their singularity as subjects” - Juliette Volcler (Phonurgia Nova)

entangled

Glad that entangled could take place at Museo Reina Sofía in the current circumstances roughly a month ago, with three sessions and reduced capacity.

The museum edited a digital booklet which you can find in English (here) and Spanish (here). Plans are on stand-by at the moment, still looking forward to organising future listening events.

madrid sin palabras: una ecología vibrante

I have just completed a residency devoted to this ongoing project series at Casa de Velázquez in Madrid thanks to the artistic research fellowship programme of Hangar and CVZ in collaboration with Institut français Barcelona.

Upcoming presentations include the exhibition CASA&CO at Casa de Velázquez (currently scheduled for February-May 2021) and the Paratext event series in Hangar (dates TBC).

m·e·s·h [earthworks] ~ DMencia 2020

m·e·s·h [earthtworks], one of the four exhibitions part of DMencia 2020 in Córdoba, scheduled for 4-20 December, has been postponed due to the current situation. New dates to be confirmed, hopefully in early 2021.

Glad to have a contribution along with the works of 809 friends and colleagues in AUDIOSPHERE. Sound Experimentation 1980-2020 at Museo Reina Sofía, curated by Francisco López. The exhibition continues until 11.01.2021.

ORO MOLIDO

The latest issue of the Spanish magazine ORO MOLIDO, active since 2001, features a conversation with Chema Chacón. Glad to contribute to this publication focused on free improvisation, sonic arts and new music.
