Notice Regarding Accommodations and Statewide Assessments
The Indiana Learning Evaluation Assessment Readiness Network (ILEARN) assessment is given to students in grades three through five in the areas of English/Language Arts and mathematics to measure a students’ knowledge and ability based on Indiana Academic Standards. Accommodations are available for instruction and assessments as determined by Case Conference Committees (CCCs) and outlined in each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). There are, however, certain accommodations that, while allowable for instructional periods, may not be permitted for particular students during assessment as determined by the CCC. Additional information is available in this memo.

I AM Print and Large Print Accommodated Materials Deadline: December 18
Cambium Assessment, Inc. (CAI) will ship print materials based on student accommodations noted in TIDE. Schools must ensure these accommodations are correct no later than Friday, December 18 to ensure shipment by April 5, 2021. As a reminder, only one set of print materials will be shipped per grade per school. Additional print materials can be ordered through the Additional Orders window beginning March 29, 2021, but these materials must be approved by IDOE. Braille materials must be noted in Indiana IEP by January 28, 2021. There are no additional orders for braille forms. Office of Special Education (OSE) Results Driven Accountability (RDA) Matrix and Planning Tool Released
OSE released the RDA Matrix and Planning Tool. Within the tool are links to corporation specific Google folders which contain additional reports and information for Indicators 4, 9, 10, 13, and 14.

The planning tool may be submitted through Friday, January 8, 2021 to specialeducation@doe.in.gov. Special education directors may prefer to turn the tool in before the winter holidays and OSE welcomes early submissions. Please use the corp number in the subject line.
 
If applicable (see 1% Cap tab), please complete the 1% survey no later than Friday, December 18, 2020.
 
Indiana State Fire Marshal Resources for Schools
The Indiana Department of Homeland Security’s (IDHS) Code Enforcement Section inspects Indiana schools in partnership with IDOE. Schools can take many actions to reduce risk and be in compliance with applicable codes between visits by IDHS inspectors. New resources have been made available for schools. View the fire safety and evacuation plans review sheetchecklist, classroom fire safety guidance and common code violations.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Guidance on Disinfection, Sanitation, and Ventilation
The EPA recognizes that many school re-openings have involved the use of disinfectant products and practices that may not be effective against the coronavirus. Given that the understanding and management of the coronavirus is changing, it is likely that schools and districts will continue to modify their operations plans and strategies as new information emerges. Please read additional information here.
Parent and Family Guide to Using Digital Learning Tools
The U.S. Department of Education has released a new Parent and Family Digital Learning Guide to help parents and guardians understand how digital tools can provide tailored learning opportunities, engage students with course materials, encourage creative expression, and enrich the educational experience.
New Resource: Contingency Planning Considerations
The Office of Special Education (OSE) has released the "Contingency Planning Considerations for Students with Disabilities in the Current COVID-19 Environment" document. This supplements the re-entry guidance previously provided through the IN-CLASS resource. Please contact Zoretta Ward-Holloway or Traci Tetrick with any questions
Indiana Women's Suffrage Centennial Educator Workshop
Incorporate curriculum highlighting Indiana’s suffrage history into your classroom by gaining insight into the work done by Hoosiers who fought to win a woman’s right to vote. Watch a recording of our workshop to learn how to explore this important milestone with your students and also how to connect this content with the continued fight for voting rights today.

Indiana's Statehood Day - December 11
Celebrate Indiana's Statehood Day on it's 204th birthday with the Indiana State Library, Statehouse Tour Office and Education Center, Indiana State Museum, and the Indiana Historical Society. You will hear from all of these organizations, some of our state's leaders, and the 2020 winners of Indiana Center for the Book Essay Competition. Note: Registration is for 10:30 EST.

Indianapolis Children's Museum - Virtual School Programs

The Indianapolis Children's Museum virtual programs give students and teachers a behind-the-scenes look at the museum and exclusive interaction with museum experts. Work live with our expert education team to complete an activity or investigation that correlates with Indiana Academic Standards. 

  • Examine replicas of Jurassic dinosaur bones.
  • Create a Chihuly-inspired piece of art.
  • Take part in a virtual visit to our rooftop garden led by museum staff. Create a garden in a glove and watch seeds grow.
  • See a real working paleontology lab while making a virtual visit to Dinosphere®.

Indiana State Museum - Celebration Crossing
Help the Indiana State Museum celebrate the holiday season by adding your musical talents to our Celebration Crossing event, Nov. 27, 2020-Jan. 3, 2021! In lieu of in-person musical performances this year, we invite you and your students to record a winter-themed song being sung. As long as the video meets requirements, we will share your video with the public to enjoy during Celebration Crossing. Register here

Sixth Annual Indiana STEM Education Conference
The Indiana STEM Education Conference will be held virtually on Thursday, January 14, 2021. The theme for the conference is "STEM Education Meets a Global Challenge" and will feature up to 60 presentations including sessions on virtual learning and STEM instruction during the pandemic.Registration will open on October 5. Proposals for presenters may be submitted here until 5 p.m. (EDT) on November 13.
Reminder: Special Education Support Services Available
The PATINS Project specialists can help problem-solve issues surrounding accessibility, assistive technology, accessible educational materials, and implementing Universal Design for Learning. Educators can reach contact the PATINS Project through their open office hours at 10 a.m. (EDT) on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday through October. PATINS Project Specialists will be available during the Open Office Hours via Zoom. Please contact Daniel McNulty with any questions.
Lincoln Collection Educator Tours

Feb. 20, 2021; 1-3 p.m.

The Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites holds one of the world’s most comprehensive collection of Lincoln artifacts, the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection. Learn about the history of the collection and the objects within on a behind-the-scenes tour with our chief curator and researcher. Then, stroll through our galleries for key points of interest with a museum educator. Open to all Indiana educators. Reservations are required.
