Year-End Campaign:
Thank You TCH Donors

THC thanks all 233 individual donors who generously contributed to our 2020 Year-End Campaign. As champions of social justice you helped us raise $130,000 exceeding our goal by $30,500.

We also welcomed 52 new donors to the campaign. Your contributions will support the general operating budget of TCH, which is the foundation and key to our success in delivering critical program to our clients.

Roadmap to Recovery
The State of Washington has launched – Roadmap to Recovery which will use a regional approach for its upcoming phased recovery plan. These regions are largely based on the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) regions used for evaluating healthcare services given the concern for COVID-19’s potential impact on the healthcare system.

There will be eight regions in Washington that fall along county lines. Most regions in Washington have four or more counties. These regions are designed based on the available health care services in the area which has a strong connection to the metrics we will be using for COVID-19 hospitalizations, case data, and general mobility of individuals.

Visit the Tacoma Pierce County Health Department's website for more information.

Enrollment is NOW OPEN for our FREE Citizenship Classes for the Winter Quarter

We are currently offering one Citizenship Class – it is via Zoom platform taught by the trained instructor. You can attend from home via computer, tablet, lap top or even phone. Unfortunately, we do not offer in person classes at this time. We will return to in person instruction once the state allows up to 20 students in the room.

The new quarter will conclude on March 20, 2021. Click the link for more information.

TCH Volunteers:

Hello TCH Volunteers. We have not forgotten about you and the depth of service you provide. Due to the pandemic, we have been challenged in many ways. Our doors remain closed, although we serve clients by appointment only and classes are delivered via zoom. Volunteer, staff and client safety is paramount.

However, with the rollout of the vaccine, TCH is developing future plans to reopen the building when CDC guidelines allow. This will include volunteer services.

As many of you know, the majority of TCH volunteers serve as tutors for Read2Me. Unfortunately, Tacoma Public Schools (TPS) and TCH suspended this program last year, and currently TPS is not allowing volunteers into schools. However, we continue communications with TPS to monitor the reopening of schools and how we might re-imagine Read2me if needed. More to come!

Numerous other TCH volunteers participate in Talk Time, serve as one-on-one tutors, and provide administrative support. Again, we are developing ways to safely re-engage you. In the meantime, we thank you for your patience and faith in TCH.

The Reach Center

Recently we announced the integration of The REACH Center into Tacoma Community House's operations and family of services. We are excited to expand our services to the community.

#BlackLivesMatter

Tacoma Community House stands with those who have courageously taken action and made their voices heard speaking out against the systems, structures, and individuals that perpetuate police brutality and the repeated murder of Black Americans.

With extreme empathy, we acknowledge the unfathomable anger, fear, and sorrow that Black communities have experienced for hundreds of years. We are not our forefathers, yet American society still subscribes to the inherently racist philosophies, laws, and practices with which they built this country. There is no excuse for the inhumanity that runs rampant in the United States.

When oppressors utilize power to diminish and marginalize others, it is our responsibility as allies to come together, in community, and demand accountability, justice, and equity for all.
