All the planes were grounded...
our inaugural Chrysalis Music Film
- a positive take home for all from the year that was a COVID shake-up!
Giinagay...
As this year comes to a close, I feel grateful to have spent the bulk of this year working at Chrysalis; with the children, parents, teachers and staff that make up the fabric of our vibrant school community. I would like to thank you, the parents, for your willingness to contribute your energy and skills to support this rich and beautiful education and environment for the children to learn and flourish. I believe that it is only in giving that we can truly receive, and I know how much is given here by so many. Thank you all.
I would like to say goodbye to the families who are leaving the school and to wish you and your children a happy and bright future.
To the Class 8 students I would like to extend a very fond farewell. It has been a privilege to share in your Class 8 project delivery and see that you’re ready to enter the next stage of your journey with your individual and unique talents and gifts. May all your dreams become reality.
May you all enjoy the gifts of this festive season along with rich family time. Enjoy the Summer holidays.
Warmth and blessings...
yaarri yarraang, Lisa
'tis a gift to be simple, ‘tis a gift to be free
‘tis a gift to come down where you want to be,
and when you have come down to the place just right,
you will be in the valley of love and delight.
when true simplicity is found,
to bow and to bend, we will not be afraid,
to turn turn will be our delight,
when by turning turning we come down right.
~ River Song's Going Up Ceremony Verse

Inaugural Chrysalis Music Film...
When the ground looked shaky for an End of Year concert, we decided to make a music film. Last Tuesday's Music Film screening was a memorable occasion, full of joy and talent, and many tears of gratitude... If you missed it, please click the video link above - you are sure not to regret taking the time!
The resounding comments to be heard afterwards included how magic it was to see the footage of the school, the valley, the rainforest and the ocean all from the air like that. To be reminded of what a beautiful place we live, work and learn in. The students shone, held and nurtured by a dedicated team of tutors!
Congratulations to everyone involved, particularly the Music Faculty, inspiringly led by Kym, and no end of thanks to the magnificent Paul Ryan for his hours of tireless commitment to bring all the footage, recording and editing together into the masterpiece that it is. The film captures beautifully the vision for music within Chrysalis. The program of expanded music tuition is seeing students engaged in opportunities across a broad musical range, much to the delight of the appreciative students and film viewers alike.
This film celebrates the music we make at Chrysalis and some of the profoundly beautiful landscapes of this Gumbaynggirr Country we call home.

Moving classrooms is a herculean effort...
At this time of year, the children will be bringing home all of their class work and classes slowly descend down the hill of our beautiful Thora campus. It begins with the Class 8s moving out of their room to make way for the Class 7s and so it continues until all classes are settled into their new rooms ready for next year.
The culmination in all this is the much-revered Going Up Ceremony held today for the River Song students going into Class 1 next year. It is always a poignant ceremony and with this year's Class 8 co-teacher also being next year's Class 1 teacher, Soli, it added an extra dimension! A beautiful moment to see Sean and Soli bidding their Class 8 students and each other farewell, and simultaneously welcoming the Kindergarten students to the "big" school.

Going Up Ceremony...
This morning Gail shared a story about a journey to the rainbow bridge to the River Song students, and the handing over of a special group of star children to the one who will care and look after them for the next part of their journey. The Class 8 who are in their final year at Chrysalis brought a handmade gift, made on their last camp, for each child who is going up to Class 1 in 2021, whilst the River Song students gifted the older students a gift as a gesture of goodbye.
The Class 8 students and staff formed an arch outside of River Song for the children led by Gail as they made their way down to the bottom of the path where Soli was awaiting them to take them up to their new Class 1 room.
Now, as they stand on the threshold of Class 1, the children are very much looking forward to what is ahead. Please see the photos here.

Emerge...
We trust you enjoyed another fulsome, colourful edition of the Emerge magazine which was sent home with your oldest child last week. If you have not received a copy, please check their school bag first and then let the office know if it hasn't made it home.

Reminder: Parent survey...
We would very much appreciate all parents taking the time to complete the online parent survey to assist the school provide the best possible experience for your children and family on the whole. Please let the office know if you did not receive either the initial explanatory email regarding the survey, or the first email from MYP with your individual login link. The survey will close this Friday 11th December. Thanks in advance for your input!

Lost property...
Tomorrow, Wednesday, is the last opportunity to look through the admin office's lost property box for any wayward clothing. All items not collected at the end of the year will be donated to a local charity shop during the holidays.

Fees documents for 2021...
The fees documents for 2021 are now available on the school website. Congratulations Class 8 students on your achievements...

After much bunny-hopping through the year, with COVID restrictions impacting on projects in numerous ways, what an incredible night you put on for your families and yourselves at your presentation evening! It is a shame not more people from the school community could come to soak up all that you achieved, however they can see a little taste of your efforts. For those who could not attend, photos and project details can be seen on the school website... and please also take a sneak peek at Poe's project movie with his short trailer above - it's well worth it (click on the bikes)!
We are so proud of all of you for your tenacity throughout the year and for reaching new heights. May this bode you well for all your future endeavours...

Thank You Assembly and Morning Tea

Last Tuesday the students, staff and school volunteers gathered together in Maam Gamambiya to say thank you and farewell to some very special staff members, as well as farewell to the Class 8 students. It was a touching moment to see all that the young and old leavers had brought to the school over their time at Chrysalis.
We hope you enjoyed reading a little about the history of the connection to the school from long term staff members leaving us this year in the recent Emerge; Kamala, Kelley, Joanna and Reanne.
On Tuesday we also farewelled three music faculty, Linda, who is moving on to spend more time with her family, and Rosie and Moala, who after completing their gap years are moving onto tertiary education. We wish them all well!
A huge thank you must also go to Karen, and her 'little' helpers in organising and sewing together all the squares for Kamala's amazing farewell quilt.

We are so grateful that Playgroups resumed this term! Our Circle Song and Pitter Patter playgroups are for children aged 9 months to 4 years old and provide a safe and nurturing stepping stone for young children to meet the world outside their home with parents and carers by their side. Our playgroups run each week during term time.
Please email Suzane Polaris to enquire about enrolling in Playgroup for 2021 or see the school website for more information.
