South Asian Task Force

Seema Marwaha, Amol Verma, Anju Anand, and resident Vivek Govaradhanam are on the steering committee of the South Asian COVID Task Force. They helped start this grassroots organization that is building community networks in the South Asian Community, advocating for testing and vaccine distribution on the ground and creating culturally relevant public health content. The SACTF has – in just a month - launched a website, social media channels, done multiple media appearances, created dissemination networks and worked with local health authorities to increase testing capacity in Peel. More to come from this group!

It's a GIRL!

Ariel, Sarah and big brother Etai are overjoyed to welcome their daughter, Roey Belle Friedlander Lefkowitz (in Hebrew, Roey Cochava Beila), into the community, born on November 28.

New Faculty
John You

Dr. John You joins Credit Valley Hospital, Trillium Health Partners, as a professor and clinician teacher. He is a hospital-based general internist who received his MD (Toronto) in 2000 and MSc in Clinical Epidemiology (Toronto) in 2005. From 2007 to 2019, he was a full-time faculty member at McMaster University. During his latter years at McMaster, his main clinical and scholarly interest was to improve the quality of serious illness communication with hospitalized patients and their families.

He now embarks on a new and exciting phase of his career that will allow him to spend more time with patients and families at the bedside. Interests and activities will include learning new skills in point-of-care ultrasound, improving inter-professional teamwork in the hospital, teaching within the Mississauga Academy of Medicine, ongoing service to the Canadian Society of Internal Medicine as an Associate Editor for the Canadian Journal of General Internal Medicine, playing rhythm guitar in a rock and roll band with his friends, and spending more time with his family before he becomes an empty nester (yikes).
