Dear People of Hope,
This Saturday we celebrate Advent and Christmas by welcoming animals to Hope. Reminiscent of the stable where Jesus was born, there will be a sheep, a goat, a calf, a rabbit, a duck, and a pony giving rides to anyone under 100 lbs. Many of you have registered; Madeline will be in touch soon with a time slot and any more details.
If you haven't registered, simply come for the last time slot. Anyone, any age is welcome to come see the animals from 1:45-2pm at Hope. Wear a mask and maintain social distance. I'll be there the whole time and I'll be happy to see anyone who is able to come say hello.
In Peace and Hope,
Pastor Julie

Holy Land Pilgrimage, Advent Conversations Wednesdays, December 9, 16, 23, 8-9pm

For years Hope and Humble Walk have had a relationship with the Lutheran congregations and the justice work in Bethlehem, Jerusalem and the surrounding area. This December we are invited to deepen this connection with an Advent Pilgrimage. Join others from Hope and Humble Walk each Wednesday evening from 8-9pm by zoom. We'll watch a short video together, and talk about themes of hope, peace, love, joy and justice.
During the Advent season we often talk a lot about the Holy Land of the past without talking much about the Holy Land of the present. This year, Hope joins ELCA Young Adults and ELCA Peace Not Walls for an Advent Pilgrimage in Palestine, talking about the past and present.
Give gift cards, support the church Contact Paul T for details
Hope participates in the nationwide Scrip gift card program. Participants buy gift cards at face-value for hundreds of retailers, including Amazon, Starbucks, grocery stories and airlines. And then the church receives a percentage of the sale. With the season of gift giving upon us, now is the time to think about how we can make the best use of this easy and painless way of benefiting our church!
Gift cards can be purchased one of two ways:
1) You can order physical gift cards through Paul T, simply by identifying the retailer and the amount. Paul will then order the cards from Scrip and you can reimburse the church by check when they arrive and Paul delivers them to you. Share your order with Paul by December 13 (prthomps1@verizon.net)
2) Many retailers offer e-gift cards you can order yourself on line. In that case, if you haven't previously enrolled, you must do so at the Scrip website and enter Hope's enrollment code (DB1216C863874) to ensure Hope gets credit for your purchase. Payment for your e-gift cards can be paid for by credit card, by debit from your bank account, or by check to the church. Do this anytime!
Gifts of Hope “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” John 15:12
Participating in the Gifts of Hope program translates into loving our neighbors. When our congregation gives Gifts of Hope, we support children, the homeless, those seeking work or education, people who need medical or dental care, and those seeking to improve their lives. This Advent season, will you consider giving a gift of love to a stranger who is in need? Visit www.giftsofhopedc.org for more information.
