SUCCESSES IN VIETNAM 2020

The Vietnamese children we put in school may seem a world away, but their successes are very real and dear to our hearts. We are happy to share this good news with you and other CCI supporters.
The girls we enable to attend school through our support of the Children’s Education Foundation (CEF) surprise us with amazing feedback and gratifying successes. The sponsorships that we provide together covers their school fees, books, required tutoring and uniforms—without which they could not get an education. And schooling helps them mature into capable young adults.

Thien landed a dream job as a Chemical Engineer upon graduation from university. She is confident that her future will be brighter than the poverty of her childhood.
|
|
Take Thien, for example. We first met her four years ago, during her freshman year in university, a painfully shy girl whom our translator had to prompt to be heard. Fast forward to her next two years. Thien, pictured above, adjusted to a heavy schedule in the hard sciences and excelled in chemistry, math and biology. She also developed self-confidence and, upon her graduation this year she immediately landed a dream job with the well-known National Textile and Garment Group located in nearby DaNang, where she leads a chemical engineering team performing chemical dye experiments and analyses.
“Words can’t express my happiness. I now have a full-time job and a future, and before I had nothing,” she said during a recent call with CCI donors. Thien now wants to pay it forward by helping more girls like herself attend school to get an education and a future with opportunity.

CCI's other Vietnam program, Hearing and Beyond, educates deaf and hearing-impaired children, the only such school in the nation’s coastal center. Without Hearing and Beyond there would be no school for these kids, and no opportunity to communicate with their families, let alone to get an education and find employment as independent adults.

These deaf children thrive in school instead of living life in social isolation.
|
|
New Zealand-born founder and director, Mai McCann, started the program with little money -- but with sheer will. She was only able to educate the children through middle school. This limitation exists no more. In 2020, CCI helped Mai launch a Work Skills Lab so the older children can learn carpentry, sewing and farming to prepare them for brighter futures with financial independence.
The smiles on the faces of the students learning work skills in the lab evince palpable excitement. Mai’s major worry is the wait-listed children not yet able to attend school, who sit at home on kitchen floors unable to communicate with parents and siblings. But we are sure she will soon find ways to expand the size of her student body.
