A Message from Mayor Wilson

Dear County Employee,

Last night the Salt Lake County Council finalized its 2021 budget. It is a balanced budget that addresses the unique future needs of the pandemic as well as the uncertainty of 2021. The County’s financial health is excellent thanks to the ingenuity, commitment, and dedication of our top-notch finance team, workforce, and the foresight of current and former County leaders. It is a years-long bi-partisan effort, with officials from the Mayor’s Office, County Council, Treasurer, Assessor, and other independently elected offices.

We continue to embrace principles of fiscal conservatism as evidenced by the County's recent renewal of its triple-A bond rating by all three major credit rating agencies. Salt Lake County joins one of very few counties in the nation in receiving the lowest interest rates on key infrastructure projects such as recreation centers, parks, senior centers, health clinics, and public works projects. This rating saves Salt Lake County and its taxpayers millions of dollars.

2020 has been a challenging year for us all, but in spite of everything thrown our way – a pandemic, historic earthquakes, and storms – we continue to innovate and foster teamwork and resiliency between our employees, elected officials, and community partners so we can ensure a safe and prosperous community into the future.

I addressed these and other issues recently in the Deseret News.

Sincerely,

Mayor Jenny Wilson
