Hi Santa Cruz Local reader,
Santa Cruz Local is not your grandma’s newspaper.
First, we’re committed to deep, useful, local reporting you won’t typically find in mainstream news. We start each project by asking you what information you need. Then we dig into those issues that are important to you.
Our podcast, email newsletter and news stories have been free since Day 1, and we’re staying that way. To make the greatest impact, our work has to be free for everyone.
- We let people know what happens in local government and how they can get involved. We unpeel the layers of our county’s biggest issues and look at potential solutions in other communities.
- We give you solid, factual and impartial news and analysis. Our aim is to inform everyone.
Our business relies on people like you to become Santa Cruz Local members and contribute $9 a month or $99 a year. (Heard enough and want to join? Click here.)
Your contribution goes a long way into growing our newsroom and helping us plan. I’m so proud of our team — we’re small, nimble and tough.
Hear it from some of our members:
“Santa Cruz Local has provided our community with comprehensive coverage and important civic news. As the former editor of the Santa Cruz Sentinel, I have worried about who will fill the gap in reporting relevant local news. Santa Cruz Local provides well researched articles and podcasts and — more importantly — context. That’s impressive coming from a small but dedicated staff.” - Tom Honig, South County resident and Santa Cruz Local member
"I'm a member of Santa Cruz Local because now more than ever we need as much local news as we can get. And these folks are all locals, involved in what matters to Santa Cruz County. Great reporting!” - Gayle Ortiz, Capitola resident and former mayor
